Nah, I was anticipating losing this one honestly. With Haren on the hill and Sale opposing us, that's not a good mixture

I did have a bad feeling about that but with the large talent gap between the two teams and the roll the Cubs were on, I was still thinking we would pull it out in a low scoring game.

Yeah but the gap between Sale and Haren was the same as the talent gap between the teams

Ok why are they celebrating with the cup? They didn't win the series.

I believe the thought is that you have to win the series to take the Cup away from the other team. So as long as they keep tying, the Sox will hold the trophy.

It seems even dumber after typing it out. Those whole thing is a farce. Good atmosphere for the games, typically, though.

Same here. I figured the Cubs would take Game 2 with Arrieta, and Sox would counter with Sale. I felt whoever won game 1 would win the series. Sale is too damn good.

Well over a 100 pitches and still throwing 98 on a hot August day....the guy is a freak.

The City Series Cup is laughable....there's only one cup in this city and that one is residing at the United Center for a year.

Much bigger actually

Agreed. Especially considering the Cubs rack up the K's on the average day

I mean Haren has had a good career, but at this point he is a serviceable #5 starter. Chris Sale is a top 5 pitcher in the game hands down.

Here's what I hope. 1). The White Sox, if they improve the defense, can hang with any team. Top pitching and defense can win with below average hitting. 2). The Cubs know what it will take to beat the big time pitchers come playoff time and can be better decision makers at the dish.

Great, now we suck again. Sale just fucked our offensive brains up so bad, it will take a month to get back to where we were.

I'm not sure decision making was the problem. When a guy is bringing it like Sale was today, you can't just sit back and look for ball rotation like you can on most pitchers....you need to get the bat moving earlier than you like. It turns into a guessing game and unless his control is horrible, you won't win many guessing games with a guy like Sale who rarely throws the same pitch twice in a AB. If you could get this guy three runs early on a regular basis, he would win 25 games.

I would trade Baez and 3 others for Sale. That dude deserves to be on a team going in the right direction.

Sale then Arrieta. Filthy

Exactly. Look at his numbers the few years....he's a .250 hitter with no power. His 30 HR years are long gone. It's a lateral move at best...why invest anything in a move that doesn't really help much?

Yeah but he's still better than Herrera. And I think Castro would be a better utility man than Herrera
Castro would be a better Util than Utley, too. I have to scratch my head as to why Utley has any interest from Cubs or fans.

Utley is LH, so the question isnt him being better then or an upgrade over Castro or Herrera ..

The question is, is he that much of an upgrade offensively at 2B over Coghlan ?

If not, do you risk some team chemistry by adding a guy late and taking AB away from Cogs and Castro who been with team all season?

Im against adding him..

Me, im looking for a possible upgrade over Haren..
Im not impressed and think he will lose more games for them then win..

Maybe people should look at the teams that are interested in Utley and ask that same question?

Teams in a playoff run are wanting his services, and there are rumored to be maybe as many as 6 teams including the Cubs.

I have to scratch my head as to why people think that Utley would be useless to this team?

A guy playing for a three year in a row pathetic team like the Phillies just needs to get back on a contending team.

Soriano hit for the Yankees when he was traded. A-Rod bounced back this year. Papi still hits. So Utley at 36 is not out of the question to be a key contributor for a contending team.

The Cubs have very few players that have been in the post-season. The main question is does he want to play for the Cubs, or go back close to home on the west coast?

No one knows which teams are interested. It's all rumors. All kinds of stuff gets floated to up the price. It may not be out of the question, but it makes little sense to replace a player with another that isn't an improvement. Utley isn't having a good year. He's hitting .213 and the guy you want to trade away is much younger and hitting .239.
