They are a .500 team. What I think we are going to see? I think we are going to be very active at the trade deadline and unload the short term vets we have for lottery prospects. I think we will see guys like Davis and Velazquez come up and build towards the future.

I dont know if Velazquez is part of the future but I dont see how the Cubs dont see what he has this year. He is on the 40 man and he has started out in AA hitting very well. At 23, the momentum he has would be a call up with him and Davis
They are good enough to have to take seriously in 2023 if Ricketts gets out the checkbook for the starting rotation.

They need another core LH bat. 1 starter.

Under control:
Hendricks
Stroman
Smyly (Opt)
Mills
Kilian
Marquez

If Kilian and Marquez prove to be better than Mills and Smyly then you don't pull Smyly's opt and Mills you can use as a swing arm along with Steel. They will need to control Marquez and Kilian to keep under 150 IP and 2 long men pay off.

Then you can target Manaea.

As a bat you really need a core left handed hitter.
