and barely over .500 is good in your mind? Hardly good for the ESPN and homer fans hype machine. Remember they are supposed to be the greatest team in the history of baseball.

Well, think of it this way. If you could get your dick up over a 50% clip. You would be doing well, eh?

The Reds are a minor league team. Too bad the Cubs have such a hard time against good teams

Isn't the rest of the NL playing the same teams?

Let me dumb it down for you. If they are doing far worse against the same competition, then what does that say about them? Are they better or worse than the Cubs? :dealwithit:

Kyle Hendricks now has the second best ERA on the cubs behind Arrieta(2.33) at 2.61 and the 8th best in baseball. What a time to be alive.

Lester was the best starter until his terd. Hendricks has been quietly solid all year long. Now the wins are finally coming to him.

All your stats show is that nothing that happens in the season is a totally reliably accurate predictor of playoff success. But I'd bet if you went back some time and looked at teams as a whole you would see that most often teams who win in the regular season are the teams that win in the playoffs... :)

Can't you just enjoy this season without making bold (putting it lightly) proclamations about being one of the best of all time or comparing them to the '27 Yankees? (Which you've said previously). It makes you sound like you're 12. I happen to think the Cubs have a chance to be great for several years, with a lot of talent in place, but there's a long ways to go and a lot can happen before we start comparing them to the historical greats. How about we compare them to the top teams of today instead?

The Cubs play the Reds 19 times, the Mets play the Red 2 series I believe so no is the answer

There's not a lot of correlation between the regular season and the playoffs. The playoffs are essentially a crapshoot. A good regular season does help you set up a bit better for the playoffs though and in most cases helps you avoid the wild card. Without digging for the exact stats my educated guess is that the World Series winner is the regular season wins leader in their league less than 50% of the time.

The Cubs are a talented ball club that got off to a hot enough start to weather the storm. I avoided the "great" label during that start and I'm avoiding it now. I think the Cubs are marginally the best team in the NL talent-wise but Washington and San Francisco are both right there. Let's just see what happens from here and hopefully have more fun than agony along the way.

Good Lord, you're an idiot. Try using that aged brain before you speak. The Mets play the Braves who at the moment are worse than the Reds....19 times.

Wow, isn't it amazing how that works?

I have to agree with you. They are just too young to labeled great. In a year or two, maybe they will be....but they need some time to grow yet. Russell and Baez have just scratched the surface of what they can be...others like Soler, Schwarber and Contreras can hit but need work defensively. A little time and experience goes a long way.

Tribune had a stat along those lines on Sunday. Only two teams since 2005 were leading MLB at the half way point and won the World Series. 2007 Red Sox and the 2005 White Sox. All teams made the playoffs.

So you don't think they can win all of the remaining games without making a trade?

People forget how young these guys are. Frankly the fact that Kris Bryant is actually better this year than last bucks the trend for a lot of second year players.
