Speaking of cybermetrics, Remember in that movie Moneyball, Billy Bean talked about how he didn't want his team trying to steal bases and that
it was based on cybermetrics? Saw something yesterday that reminded me of that. I believe that the A's are a top team in stolen bases.
I have always disputed the "great value" of cybermetrics and have caught a lot of heat for it from its disciples. I believe that like anything else, it has
a value but is in my mind over-rated. THe premise of that book and movie was flawed. The A's became a very good team, I believe, because of its
wonderful scouting department and player development and had to because of a limited budget to work with in Oakland. One of the A's best examples
of a great player development person in Stephensen who they had as their organization hitting guru. The White Sox stole him and is with them now and
has really transformed a few guys into legit hitters.
