It's gonna be a wet, blustery weekend for me.

This is the first chance I've had time or internet to check back in. The town I live near (Refugio) took brunt of northern eyewall of storm for 5 hours as it lingered. I'm fortunate in that the damage to my home was more cosmetic than structural. Very few trees on property survived. A large oak in our back yard missed my roof and main power line by a few inches. We are all safe and back home beginning to pick up pieces. Have a generator for power to run fridge, freezer, a few appliances. No AC. Septic works. No running water though. Estimates 10-14 days for power to be restored. Last 6 days camping in my own home have been an adventure.

That sucks about the damage, but glad to hear you're alright.

Good to hear everyone is fine. Hope you're able to restore you home to the way it was prior to the storm.

Glad you're back.

Just out of curiosity, a friend(different one) who went through Katrina that lives in Houston said everything is being overblown. It's bad, but nowhere near as bad as the news has made it out to be and that Katrina was way worse. Wonder if you can give some more 411 on that, since she's not the only person to tell me that.

No doubt you just shrugged it off...plopped some more brats on the grill and had a good time despite the conditions.

Did Katrina linger for 7 days at tropical storm force and drop 3+ feet of rain? I'm also fortunate that we did not suffer the massive flooding Houston and suburbs is getting. On the bright side I just got denied FEMA assistance this morning but I can appeal after the insurance settles so I got that to look forward too.

Dealing with insurance companies and government agencies will make that hurricane look like a gentle spring shower.

Electricity restored last night. Running water sometime today. Now if I can just get internet/phone/cable restored life will return to almost normal.

Man, If I had a home anywhere in the country that is prone to flooding then I would own an aqua dam. 100% http://www.gulfcoastaquadams.com/

Glad to hear you and your family are okay. The house as well. Good luck to ya dealing with FEMA and the insurance company.
