Holy fucking hell that's an incredible backhand saucer pass.

It really was. It really takes some skill particularly with the curved blades....hell, it was tough with flat blades. I never could get the hang of it and eventually just gave up trying. It would always end up either 5 feet in the air or an ice hugger.

I want to do justice to that 2 second gif....because we have only talked about the saucer pass but I believe the OP of the gif meant more by it.

First....he is 19. Second...he diagnoses the centering pass in time to intercept it. Next, he steals the interception so cleanly, that he immediately calms it and places it in a position to where he could execute the saucer pass perfectly. He does this in a small space in traffic in front of his goal. He makes the spectacular play, but he turns it into the right play, the best play.

Its simple, it happens fast, but there really isn't enough to say about this simple play, because it proved wisdom beyond his years, top flight skill, and an eerie calmness in traffic. Anticipating and intercepting passes probably leads to more goals the other way than any single thing in NHL.

Combined with 7-0 on face-offs, and his being upset with himself and insisting he can play better afterward....so far I see only good signs. However, he will always remain a little small.....but he is Finnish and the dwarfism comes naturally and they have proven their success time and again as a hockey nation. I think combining their strengths with the strengths of our candiens and swedes means only good things.

Kane was just as small coming into the league, but he is pretty stout right now. Teuvo just needs time to build strength. That can be said of any 19 year old in the NHL even if they are already 6'2'' 200 pounds.

agreed. The great one was 6'0" 185 in his prime, I wasn't making a total value judgement on it. That and his stamina performance on the bike (which I don't think he even understood the purpose of or how to do) are probably why we got lucky at 18 overall. But yeah....at 19 I had nothing except gangly limbs and acne. 24-26 is most peoples first taste of old man power as your body solidifies together.

If he can continue anything remotely close is this area, then anything he does offensively is gravy. It's something the Hawks really need. Don't know what happened to Handzus other than aging but his faceoff wins are few and far between these days. I mean the Hawks have Toews and no one else who's reliable at the dot. Faceoff wins mean puck possession and with a puck control team like the Hawks...it's vital.

Kruger is actually better than Toews this year (very slightly), just over 57%. Yanic Perreault is apparently doing wonders with him. Handzus is right under 50% which isn't terrible for a 3rd option at the dot. Kruger really came out of nowhere this year. Chicago is #4 at the dot this year as a team - they were #11 last year, and that was pretty much due to Toews.

I was pleasantly surprised when I looked up those numbers.

Not to mention that it was a backhander saucer pass.

I don't get the 'dwarfism' line - sounds like joking -- gonna let that go through to the keeper. (And that is the last soccer analogy I will ever use -anywhere...).

u never heard of Finish Drarves? Look at their national team, they produce squatty pluggers. Part of why Tuevo looks really big in highlights too. He is like lightning to them because his body is more lithe, but he has a nice thinking mans head.

Hawks clearly didn't want to burn a year of his entry-level deal this year.

Hope he torches the AHL.

Morin made him redundant this season.... in fact Morin is looking pretty good (although I have not caught a game in awhile.).

Sports ticker just flashed across my screen at 11:51 saying Tuevo scores first goal in Rockford!!!

Q is an idiot!! God damn his doghouse is like lovie smith. Morin has been there plenty, its a hard place to escape.

I guess they really don't want to risk injury or eligibility, I didn't see where the kid got an actual chance, but maybe he showed in practice he wasn't ready or mature or something.

How far into his first game in rockwford did he score? or was it his first?

This has nothing to do with a doghouse or anything like that...

Teuvo will be our 2nd line center next year...

Don't miss the postgame interview at www.icehogs.com with Tuevo....about 3 minutes long discussing why the blackhawks sent him down. I think he is frustrated a little, and annoyed by the NHL game of dumping toward the net and constricting his skating and playmaking.

Clearly Q wants him to shoot more and create chances a little differently than he is used to. Apparenlty he is down there getting use to the small ice and how to play the american style.

I'm glad he scored in his first game down there, the more he keeps that up the less we have to wait.

1 game!! 1 point!! 1 goal!!
