Jack Sanborn - Tired of media questioning him as a starter

If the Bears had drafted him in the 4th or 5th round where he was projected, guys would be saying look at the hidden gem that Poles found.
Every GM including Poles should be admonished for allowing him to be a UDFA.

Yeah, but can he do it next season when theres talent around him?!?!
If DLmen start making and taking tackles away from Jim Sunburn, he will be totally exposed as unable to make tackles when guys aren't there to tackle. Kinda like Sosoquan Smitts having 4 of his 5 lowest tackle games as a Raven.

I thought everyone was high on sandboner and okay with him starting at MLB next year?
Apparently some think he is just the least ugly girl in the bar at last call.

He literally has more TFL(5) in his 5 starts than Roquan Smith had (4) in 8 games with the Bears this season.
How are his TFL low when he’s only played in just a few games?

Rumors are that the NFL is considering building on their minority opportunity summits with a pre draft summit next year for slow looking white guys with traditional christian names from the midwest.
Events include the slightly downhill 40, 2 cone drill and trampoline vertical.

Looking slower with more talent? How can I understand it?

When you put faster, younger, smarter/more skilled players around him, he could look slower or become less impactful. His involvement in tackles could go down if other players around him are doing their job and he isn't providing constant cleanup with his maximum effort. Hell, teams could start targeting him in pass pro (a la Trevathan). There's all sorts of ways to possibly "expose" him.

I'm not saying Sanborn can't turn out to some diamond in the rough.... But IMO he's probably more Kwaitkowski than he is Lance Briggs... And I for one won't be upset when the talent level on defense raises the waterline past his depth.

I’ll take football smarts over measurables every day. Some guys just have instincts that can’t be taught. The only thing speed gives you is more room for error especially if you have a low football IQ.

The guy is a starter on a horrible defense surrounded by players who won't be here or starters in the near future. It's nice that he's able to fill a hole, but we won't know what he is until there's some semblance of talent around him. My expectation is that he will continue to look slower and slower as the pieces are replaced.
I'm confused - if he's making plays now with lower level guys around him it would seem he's being made to cover up holes or more territory and if he gets better help wouldn't that allow him to cover less area and play faster/better?

Totally agree. I mean you can overcome undrafted if you are from Clemson, UGA, or Alabama, but undrafted and WISC...give me a break? Plus what do all the best undrafted NFL linebackers have in common, James Harrison, Sam Mills,London Fletcher? Not being white!!

It's also so transparent how they are setting him up to look better than that former 1st round black LB from UGA just to make Polls and Sandburn look good. White privilege at its worst!!!!
Another conspiracy, who would have guessed.

Amen. The guy can tackle ball carriers. He seems to be around where the ball is a lot. Stuff like that I think is good.

Imagine being triggered by people questioning another non-impact LB. We couldn't even get a grace period after Roquan "HE SHOULD BE A PRO-BOWLER" Smith.

There’s another UDFA Wisconsin LB coming to town this week. He was a great Badger but lacked the measurables the NFL covets.

He’s thriving on a great defense and team.

Sanborn plays at football speed because he can read and dissect what he sees. Judge how he’s diagnosing plays and where he’s making those plays. Is he getting beat in coverage? Is he making tackles from behind because he was beaten or is he reading, filling and finishing?

My guess is the Bear brain trust is smiling after reviewing film each week.
I am not saying Sanborn will or won't succeed. I was just explaining why sometimes players look worse when the defense gets better around them.

Honestly I don't think he has played enough for anyone to make an informed opinion on his future. It is mainly just people trying to be first so they can say they knew one way or another very early. That does not interest me. I will let his play over the course of this season and next inform my opinion.

I just checked PFF and his grade there is 59.1. What am I or they missing because he looks better than that to me.
