I think I am way to old to appriciate the Jackass franchise.

Butt...

Dunn was perhaps best known for his placing a toy car, in a condom, up his rectum in the original "Jackass" film.

That's a hell of a way to make a livng. His parents must be so proud.

And here I thought the first person to die from the Jackass franchise would have done it doing something stupid.......oh wait, he did. Drinking and driving is just plain stupid. Sucks he died, but at least he didn't take out any innocent people in the process.

Say whatever you will about Ryan Dunn but Ebert is now just a jackass (if you haven't heard the hoopla about him, pick a news website, they'll have something about it). I never watched anything jackass related, it wasn't my style but to say less than a day later what Ebert said. Bravo you asshole, you think you are better than everyone else, you are a fucking film critic...bra-fucking-vo I can sit on my ass and watch movies and make comments on them too. Sorry that isn't a real job, there is no fucking skill involved in reviewing a film. Shit we have an entire fucking thread dedicated to it. There you go, everyone that has posted in that thread can do your fucking job. Go buy a chin you fucking piece of shit.

I don't get what's wrong with what he said. "Friends don't let Jackasses drink and drive"

It's absolutely true.

Also, no skill involved in reviewing a film? Read one of his reviews and then read the 35 pages of film reviews here and I can tell you there is tremendous skill involved. You may not agree with his reviews but I can assure you they are written with much thought and skill.

What takes no skill is a comment like " Go buy a chin you fucking piece of shit."

I feel that Ebert had every right to say what he said.

I joined his facebook page to see the vitriol people were spewing back and forth.

As far as his film criticisms, I cannot agree with every film review he does. What he does have is an extensive background on writing and film critique. All the thread on movie reviews are people liking or disliking films. That is a general look at what this community feels on current and past films. Film criticism is a skill, and if you want to debate it, I'll go toe to toe with you. I'm sure you're well versed in the tome "Making Movies," or read "The Writers Journey," or peered at works by Sklar.

Your weak minded (this is aimed at Supraman) comments regarding Ebert equate him with an abstract artist-- "Oh, my kid can paint that." What's the difference between Joe Blow and Ebert.

Plenty.

I'm a personal fan of "Your Movie Sucks," and at least he has a "voice" when it comes to reviewing big budget trash. I thought he was spot-on when it regarded Mariotti, and he's correct in his tweet.

Now the families involved will mourn Dunn's stupid antics. That's just human nature. I lost a friend a few years back to drunk driving. His decision was stupid, and he left 3 young children behind because of his actions.

Yeah, Ebert wasn't out of line with that comment, was actually spot on. Dunn and his friend have no one else to blame but themselves for being morons and driving drunk. "Go buy a chin" comment is far more out of line. The dude had pieces of his jaw removed for cancer, ffs.

He shouldn't of said anything, it shows lack of class (not suggesting I have any either). Look we all know drinking and driving is bad and a lot of people still do it anyway making a comment about a guy that died less than 24 hours after it happened is just being a dick. Be the bigger man and not say anything, I bet if it was say Tom Hanks or someone considered a good actor he would have kept his mouth shut. He didn't like the jackass stuff so when someone related to the franchise died he had to open his mouth.

Was my comment about his chin out of line? Sure the **** was.

And i'm sorry, there isn't any skill involved in reviewing a film. Making a film sure, watching it and commenting on it? No.

As for the "my kid can paint that" no actually making something takes talent. commenting on it doesn't. I can't write a book, I can't make music, I can't make a movie, I can't paint, sculpt, etc. But man I can comment on them.

Look at the video game thread, some of us have reviewed games, I'm almost positive none of us are professional video game reviewers either.

Sure you can comment on video games and movies, but I'm betting not in way that would make 100,000s or millions of people want to read your comments. Ebert has a way with words that makes him popular. It absolutely is a talent. He also writes about a lot more than just movies. He often writes political commentary, reviews of books, and just general musings. All of which are written with a depth of knowledge that I can only dream of achieving some day.

This is basically proving you have no clue what you're talking about.

How do you figure? I can watch a film and review it, you can, anyone can. Anyone can say "I liked it because..."

If you want to say he's a good writer fine. Not everyone is a good writer, I sure ain't, I'm downright terrible at writing.

You really don't want to get into this with BHP... he'll school you and then some.

I know many people don't care for Ebert, but I like him. He's one of the few reviewers out there who'll openly admit a movie isn't critically "good" but that you'll still enjoy what it is. He suffers from foot in the mouth syndrome like everyone else - although in this instance, I don't really find anything particularly offensive about his comment.

And if it's one thing that Yelp/Amazon/any open forum where people can discuss their retail experiences has taught me... it's that the average person CANNOT review something.

My point is that he has a history in filmmaking.

Filmmakers can dissect movies when reviewing them.

Becoming a filmmaker has changed my filmgoing experience. We tend to see things that people not experienced in the field do not. I am no way equating myself with Ebert, but the guy knows his chosen field.

This can hold true to any critic in their chosen field whether it be music, sports, art, culture, beer, etc.

School away. I just don't think reviewing something is incredibly difficult. Writing the review intelligently does take talent but to take in a form of media and comment on it doesn't take talent. And when you boil it down, that's what he does.

I will admit I have never read one of his reviews on a movie (did read his views on video games), I never said he was a good or bad film critic just said it isn't a terribly difficult job.

Again actually creating a movie or some form of media, takes tremendous talent that I certainly lack and I admire those people.

I have no problem with Ebbert's comment. I doubt the family of a guy who shoved a toy car into his rectum for laughs is offended by them regardless.

It certainly appears that a life and career based on stupidity ended in the same manner.

Disagree with you here.

Ebert was fine with what he said. Dunn was an idiot. It wasn't the first time he crashed a vehicle. He would talk about the time he flipped his Chrysler Lebaron 8 times on the highway when he was in high school. He was in a group called Camp Kill Yourself, or CKY. He lived in a world where he created havoc and defied death for a long time. It finlly caught up with him.

Nevermind anything else, for guys that made a career out of being irreverent, anti-social, and just being dicks to some folks, some of whom weren't expecting it and having a laugh at those peoples expense, they seem to have thin skin.

You drink, you drive, your Dunn.
