How many posters watch more than 3-5 minute highlight reels?

That's probably worse than just looking at stats because you're just getting fed the absolute best plays.

We have at least one GA fan who might have watched more than 1 FULL game. I believe you'd have to watch at least 2 or 3 FULL games paying close attention to the d-line every series....who actually did that on CCS?

Disagree. A stat can show up because of a missed block or a meaningless INT on a Hail Mary throw for example.

At least with a highlight you can still see the player at his best and view the physical traits.

That being said…. Yes, obviously watching full games is best.

Look beyond college sack numbesr, especially for an interior lineman. He can for Eberflus's defense what Tommie Harris did for Lovie's.

Do you think the scouts and teams that have him as a top 5 pick have watched film?

I watched 3. He was single blocked a ton and handled pretty well. He does flash though and the traits are there but I still think his overall play on the field is being hyped

Its more of a positional value question. Is that space eating DT that doesn't really rush the passer worth a top 5 pick? If you feel Carter can be a Chris Jones and get 8-10 sacks a year that is a different type of player and I think you absolutely take him top 5. But if he is just a space eater can you draft him that early?
He's not just a space eater. While Georgia predominantly runs a 3-4, they also run some even front packages which allow Carter to line up at the 3-tech and get up field. He's versatile in that way where he can also two gap. But his ideal position is the 3. Had he played in an exclusive even front scheme, his "numbers" would reflect that. When he's asked to get up field and penetrate he's a disruptive force.

Quinnen Williams was deployed in a similar fashion in college at Bama. Didn't have a ton of sack production.

The Jets prominently run a 4-2-5 allowing Williams to get off the ball and eat.

That’s fine. In the scouting world you can be wrong 50% of the time and be among the best. Lot of scouts were wrong about Donald. I think he’s a bit overhyped. If you’re telling me I could be wrong, I agree. Thanks!

I remember vividly the heated CCS debates on Jalen Ramsey coming out because of the lack of interception numbers. There were many here who believed he wasn't worthy of a top 5 pick solely based off of that. While it seems his play has declined this year he was certainly worth the investment.

This is what I'm talking about - Good post.

So the Aaron Donald comps are undeserved?

This happens year in and year out on this board. Especially after the draft. Whoever the Bears select will be compared to a first ballot hall of famer. There's no way they just drafted Michael Haynes.

Of course scouts can be wrong. I am just telling you sacks isnt the best way of telling that nor is watching a couple games on film if you havent watched other players as then who are you comparing too.

Donald went 13th so not like he was a late round pick. Of course he would go higher now but that isnt really scouts being wrong. Different teams have different needs and drafting strategies.

Carter looks like he can be a stud and a wrecking ball in the NFL, but let's not compare him and Aaron Donald please. Quinnen Williams is a good comparison which is pretty darn good.

Dont know that anyone has compared them. Think the comment was he is the best DT prospect since Donald per some not that he is comparable to Donald.

Payne never had more than 5 sacks till this season. Not sure I trust DTs that put up career years in a contract year. I expect someone will really disappointed with him over the next few years. I don't see him as a dominant player worth the contract he will sign.
Look at his QB hit numbers from last year. 15 QB hits last year, has 16 this year, but more of them are resulting in sacks than they did last year. He also has a career high TFL. He's also 25 years old, so maybe it's not a contract year performance thing. Maybe it's a guy coming into his prime getting better. This is exactly the player you sign as a free agent 100x out of 100 if you have a choice. If he was 28 and having his 1st big year, that'd be different, but he's young enough where you can reasonably expect him to have 3-4 years of high level performance.
