Johnson can't be any worse than Rose was defensively last year. He's played in two summer league games, and we're bitching about his D already? Neither guy he guarded lit him up either which is worth noting.

I do think it's a factor, but Johnson looks like he's gotten into better shape since predraft camp already, so I'm hopeful that he'll continue to do so and improve. Hopefully he backs up his words, because he sounds awfully committed, humble, and hard working when you interview him.

I do think we want to play him at the four long term though.

Wow we just might be the worst defensive team in the league this season.
James
Derrick
Tyrus
Taj
etc.

Kirk, Salmons, Deng, Noah & Hunter?

I get your point, those guys aren't much on defense, but I'd still point to Toronto, off the top of my head, as far worse, when you consider that we have four or five other guys who are really good on D.

Anyway, what Johnson can or can't do right away, where he'll play and how much he'll play, is quickly becoming one of the most interesting parts of this offseason.

No doubt, James Johnson can help us out a lot more than BJ Mullens can down the road. I'm counting.

I'm not expecting anything from Jonhson or Gibson. Mid-first round, late first round picks typically don't become more that role players at best in this league. Sure there are some exceptions but I'm not counting on Johnson to be a future starter. I think a role player would be the best case.
