Just think how many more world series championships the Cubs would have had if the Magical Grinch had stayed on the north side. The narrative would have been different though because in those years lack of talent was a problem for the Cubs. They did have Alphonso Soriano signed to a monstrous multi year deal which was a credit to a baseball exec that looks like the grinch meddling in player decisions.

Moving on to the beginning of Theos work with the Cubs and into the the playoffs I don't know how anyone ever took notice of the Cubs and their 1st WS championship without McD. Sadly the world completely ignored the Cubs marketing dept failing to give them credit for the world championship.

My memory is hazy on it, but I seem to recall what happened was as soon as Rocky took over, he started putting home games on TV--some, not all. I believe it was after the season started so the feel I got was that they came so late in the scheduling game that they simply *couldn't* put them all on TV. Then McD came in and he tried to get them all on TV for the next season.

I would like to think that they would have been all on TV regardless...but it's just my guess.

For guys like Foley, Mikita, Tony-O (Not Hull for Voynov reasons), I do give McD credit...and stuff like that was in his wheelhouse as a marketer. Ditto if he was indeed the driving force behind the Hossa "splash" over Marty "I have trouble jumping over the boards" Havlat. I'll even throw in getting the Outdoor games even though our record outside is worse than the Washington Generals.

But in terms of the succession plan? Yeah, Stan, and he by proxy of not axing Stan when Stan needed to be axed, are to blame IMHO. It was like he wanted to rest on the success of the hype he built and the wins Smith/Tallon's acquistions build as opposed to moving to the next phase as the core ages.

It was gradual over the first few seasons before McD took over (not just the season prior to when he took over). I'm positive, for what it's worth.

Anyway it was a list of things he needed to do to turn it around and it wasn't rocket science. It was pretty dead on and he basically just did the obvious to appease fans.

That's exactly what he should have been doing!

I guess you just can't win with some people.

I just did not get why McDonuts could not just have been told to get back in the office and forget about the team and players unless Rocky just wants his kid as full time president. It makes sense that Rocky would prefer to keep the kid around to take over the whole operation. But if it was just because of Donuts vote of confidence in Bowman, I think Bowman could have been fired without this move. Its like the other tenant. Now people are claiming that all this shit was on Gar, not Pax, when all I saw was Pax running things and Gar doing paperwork (like Mickey Loomis in New Orleans just doing paperwork ((teaching Pace the same))). It makes it sound like Pax could have and should have fired Gar. Dont know if its the same deal here, but I really dont care who else is fired out of people that have titles that I need to google, just get Bowman out.

He was needed. But maybe he should have stayed in his lane.

3 cups? lets compare to the rest of the Chicago sports franchises...if anything the Blackhawks set too high a standard for bandwagon Blackhawk fans that only started following the team at the start of 2010 season.

Theo Epstein one and done with unlimited payroll. I also don't think his front office has developed in house pitching since he's taken over(9+ seasons already) and is also one of the main reasons he had to overpay to land scrub pitchers like Quintana.

Chicago Bears, lol
White Sox, lol
Bulls post Jordan, lol

A new president was needed. Doesn't mean it should have been him.
You're right, doesn't mean that at all.

When Dollar Bill passed, Rocky was doing a lot of interviews and mentioned changes that he wanted to see. Of all the candidates he had to choose from it was the Grinch. But without a doubt there were more than a few quality candidates he had to choose from.

There are examples from all sports that show teams coming out of the cellar to success. When that success happens it's because of the talent on the field/ice/court. Sure the front office is important but it always comes down to the talented players on the TEAM, WINNING!!! The grinch , some here are giving him credit for what those players did, and it's BULLSHIT that no one would have noticed or the players wouldn't have been successful if he wasn't there.

The Theo Epstein Cubs were sure noticed once they made the playoffs and won the WS, the grinch wasn't there was he.

Ahhh, it finally appears that people are on to Jack Off Lantern. FYI, he's a kid who is completely full of shit. He clogs threads with feats of idiocy....he learned how to Google and can search YouTube. MassHavoc's 09 estimate is being generous. Everything he knows about NHL hockey he learned from EA Sports.

Nothing wrong with a little disagreement, Spunk. If there was, I would've been divorced 20 years ago. :D

I actually wrote a college paper recently on the Blackhawks FO post Dollar Bill; ended up getting an A on it. Not sure what it has to do with John Mc getting fired though.

You were in college recently? I always thought you were older.
