Not that this is breaking news or anything... I'm listening to 92.3 here in the Cleveland area. Cribbs is on with them right now. He says he's been in contact with multiple teams, but he mentioned the Bears and Pats specifically.

The perfect return game would have been Cribbs as KR in his prime and Hester as PR in his prime. It he is brought in, he would definitely have to be a better ST player than Weems outside of just return ability. I have given Weems a ton of crap, but that dude is scrappy and initiates some bad behavior by the opposing team that tends to result in the Bears' favor.

One thing about Cribbs that no one talks about is how good he is on ST coverage.

Wouldnt you think its far too early for our coaching staff to be able to evaluate our returners? Unless the majority of the group had trouble fielding the ball during returns, there is not much to go off of.

I haven't really payed much attention to his coverage. Has he been good the last couple years returning?

no

just a name as a returner at this point.

Cribbs agent is probably just tryin to drum up some demand. Probably listing everyone theyve talked to on the phone this year.

I'd love to have him, & he can play some slot WR also. He isn't what he used to be but I still think he can bring something to the table at a reasonable cost.

I personally think his body is done and his mind just hasn't figured it out yet.

I like Cribbs. I doubt he has much left in the tank but he was awesome in his prime and was a great athlete. Felt bad for him being stuck with the Browns but actually willing to stick it through and be loyal to them. I think he deserves to at least play for a contender and maybe sniff the playoffs once in a while. Plus he's crazy versatile. He could be the emergency QB, RB, and WR...

Cribbs has 10 seasons in the NFL making him a fully vested vet with a minimum salary of $955K for the 2014 season.

To put that into prespective rookies drafted in the top of the 2nd round players avearage ~$1M/season and 7th rounder are about ~$430K and their contracts are around 4 years in length.

From a pure financial side it makes no sense to sign Cribbs to any kind of a deal because the minimum you have to pay him is too high.

Thanks, Pegger! Excellent info.

Combine the $1 mil cost with the fact that Raiders cut him in 2013 after a poor preseason, and I don't think any team would do more than give him a tryout... where he'd somehow have to blow them away.
