I guess the real answer to this is, can you and the wife life on what she makes and you making $11 bucks an hour? That's only $22,880 a year without taxes taken out. I know I'm of the younger group on the boards, but for me 22k is not a lot to start out at unless I'm 100% sure that I will be getting constant raises through meeting training levels or promotional opportunities.

Just my .02 cents...

You may be a young asshat, but I agree with you.

I have a friend whose husband works as a A & P for American here in Chicago. He has been trying to get out for a while now. Meanwhile, Chasman who pops in here every now and again seemingly loves it. But then again, in the whole American system, his seniority number is around 300. Meaning there are about 300 people with more seniority then him worldwide.

I wouldn't go anywhere near American Airlines right now

I don't know how they can justify paying a job like that $10 an hour. I really don't. That's a $1.75 more than minimum wage..........

My sister makes more than $10 an hour working at McDonald's while she goes to school. I know college kids working at ice arenas that make more than $10 an hour. I don't know man, I just can't get over how little money that is. That's high school kid pay, for what seems like a pain in the ass job. The fact that they might bump you to $11 an hour after SIX MONTHS? Meh.

I would also read this before making a decision:

I had read that a day or 2 ago. Most of the things I have read from past employees havent been terrible. I think the worst thing I read was someone said it was the worst job they ever loved.

I am right there with you on the pay thing. I saw a job listing somewhere the other day for a temp job working for a city working 12 hour days for 3 months, doing leaf removal and such. Needed a cdl class B with airbrake endorsement, provide your own steel toe boots, and so on. $8.50 an hour. **** you.

I would go into why I think jobs like that one and this one are paying so little, but that belongs in the political forum.

Think about this:the guy checking the rails to make sure they won't bust under the weight of the passenger train you are on or the freight hauling hazardous crap next to you is making 10 bucks an hour.

Just like when I was working at the prop shop I was making 10 or 11 bucks an hour and I was making sure the prop blade wasn't gonna fail mid flight

What is pay grade 09?

That is one of the biggest secrets at the university.

I've been there for nearly 8 years, and I have no clue.

It doesn't mean you start at $9 per hour-- I think it's just a code for determining departments.

They are going thru what most of the other airlines went thru in 2003 when they went thru bancruptcy .

If you are referring to the seat fiasco, that work was contracted out and done by TIMCO.

The only planes effected by the seats were done there, AA chose to check most of the 757 's .

Because this out sourced work has been in arbritration and they don't want to jeperdise there case.

As for me I plan on retiring in Dec.

Not referring to the seat thing. Things like that happen, it's human error and there is no way to get rid of all of that. I was referring to the Bankruptcy and potential merger. Such is life at airlines though. I've had many pilots tell me you're not an airline pilot until you've gone through a bankruptcy, furlough, and a divorce.

Class B. I have a passenger endorsement (big deal), but I swear I tested on an air brake vehicle, but I don't have that endorsement. WTF?

Talked with my nephew over the weekend. If you are serious about a career in the NW Dakota oil fields he said I can pass on his phone number to you. You know how to reach me.

GL on your search Jako.
