Teeth extraction. They had to biopsy a mass near his salivary gland. I hope the little (well, 27 pounds) ****** is going to be okay but he better start shitting gold kruggerands. Our pet insurance is a joke

hope the ****** is alright too lol. so pet insurance sucks?

i just let my sister put over $1500 on my credit card for her dog to get some treatment. I know I'll likely be the one paying it off but no way I could let the dog suffer or die when it was obviously treatable.

The entertaining thing is that a vet tech that gets paid $10-16/hour did those extractions...what you're paying for is the anesthetization, antibiotics, and the ventilator/other machinery. I spent a few months doing that after I finished school...once they asked me to cut a dog's head off to ship it to the CDA for rabies testing I was done.

yeah, and x-rays, and biopsies, and steroids, and we also got him a haircut. It's a racket!

For damn sure. The funny thing is you have no idea how many random human surgeries (minor of course) are done in those places. One of my buddies that still does that kind of work has x-rayed himself often enough that he has his own file that is on multiple local systems. A doc I worked with had me laser off a growth from his heel once. All sorts of medical shenanigans go on in those places since the equipment is available and there is very little oversight (outside of controlled substances which are cataloged meticulously). Don't get me wrong, everything is constantly under video surveillance, but if nothing is missing there's no reason to watch enough tape to find people vaporizing each other with lasers. It's a silly situation.

I see your $1,200 and raise you $600. $1,800 in the last three weeks for two extended hospitalizations and a follow up appointment. He's 14 and the vets believe he has cancer somewhere in the digestive tract. They've done all the tests they can and the last option is exploratory surgery which we nixed. The last stay was five days for an upper respiratory infection.

All this on top of another five day stay which we weren't charged. We took him in to have his mats shaved, he's at the point he can't groom himself. Other than that he still is alert and has decent energy for a 14 year old. They wanted to give him light sedation to calm him because the mats were close to the skin. He had a bad reaction to the anesthesia and ended up going into cardiac arrest. They had to go Pulp Fiction on him and give an adrenaline shot directly to the heart. This all started from a $25 trim. They felt so bad they didn't charge us.

Hopefully it comes back negative- good luck!

Pet insurance is absolutely terrible.
I had an issue with VPI denying a claim based on a clerical issue on their part, and since that point I don't even bother.
I had the premium set for auto pay from my account.
VPI changed their billing system, they missed a month of the premium (which me not noticing is tecnically my fault).
23 billing cycles later, almost 2 years, when I made the claim, they said that they did not have an exam showing evidence of insurability after the gap in coverage.

They chose to reimburse me the 23 months of premiums rather than continue coverage, because that was the cheaper way out.
Then they had the balls to call me back a week later to see if I wanted to reinstate coverage on my other dog.

I could have used it though- in late december I had the second of 2 tightrope ccl surgeries done to my dog. she is still rehabbing.
On a cool side note, my vet does platelet enriched plasma treatments during the surgeries, and it seemed to really help the recovery process.
he just drew the blood prior to the surgery, processed it during, and injected it back in at the end.

Damn. I was pissed when we had to spend 300 on our cat when she ate dental floss and it got stuck in her intestine. I don't think I could spend 1200 on a cat. Our dog, maybe...

He is. Love maine coons, but that cat better pay some dividends. He sounds like a tax write off right now. Maybe we can fight our cats and post that shit on youtube.

My Maine coon is deaf and missing a canine but still scraps with squirrels and bunnies and brings us the carcasses, don't know how he does it because he's seriously lost a step now that he's like 20 years old. He's also lost a lot of weight over the last year, maybe your guy can take him in the catogon...

lol. i wouldn't be surprised if your cat hears my cat howling all day and night. It's fantastic. I can't believe how fucking loud this cat is and I can't think of any reason why he's so fucking loud all the time. Seriously sounds like he's being tortured.

Um, I seriously doubt I would ever spend that much on my cat. Put it down, get another one out of the pound.... That's ridiculous.
