For what it is worth to the pet lovers on here, Care Credit is a great resource for vet needs as well as human care needs.
should a pet ever get in to an emergency situation when funds or credit lines are tight, it is an outstanding company to tap in to so your fur-baby doesn't have to wait or be denied care.

I was hooked up with it in an emergency situation many years ago.
We had x amount of dollars that we needed to cover the gap in what we had and what we needed for a bunch of tests and a weeklong stay at a specialty clinic.
They had pamphlets at the clinic, we made a call from the clinic, set up an account in minutes- they called the clinic to authorize the the payment within 5 minutes of me picking up the pamphlet.

The best part is that they will structure it for a 0% interest and finance charge.

If you ever get caught in an emergency, a couple days before payday or whatnot, it is a fantastic resource to get you through.

I have 2 cats and I also doubt I would put that much money into them. It's just a personal decision, but those 2 ******* have had a pretty damn good life and I love them. However I'd rather rescue another animal to replace the older one and that could very well be happening soon as the female is 16 years old.

PS - I hope your cat is doing well.

The entertaining thing is that a vet tech that gets paid $10-16/hour did those extractions...what you're paying for is the anesthetization, antibiotics, and the ventilator/other machinery. I spent a few months doing that after I finished school...once they asked me to cut a dog's head off to ship it to the CDA for rabies testing I was done.

I was a vet assistant for a bit. I got used to dead dogs but they never cut a head off while I was there. Once they did when I wasnt working

I am a dog lover and have a 8 yr old Border Collie. I do look at pets differently though when it comes to medical care and its costs. Call me cold hearted if you like but as the pet gets older the less I am willing to pay to extend its life. At some point you have to say goodbye instead of bleeding off the family bank account or, as recommended above, going into debt . I'm not saying I wouldn't take my dog to the vet (I have) but I do wiegh the cost/benifit and expected quality of life after the treatments were done before agreeing to it.

Then again I have been told that I am somewhat of an asshole.

before you guys go put your cats down for a huge pricetag, I have a six-shooter, a cold hand and a big back yard. That's how my old boy is going to end. there will be tears...

... and BBQ'd kat-kobobs.

He's 7. We probably won't do this again. He's had a good life.

If it's any consolation Ole, I wouldn't mind spending $1200 for a good pussy.

I'm already 1/3 of the way there with our kitten. She's been sick with an incurable case of the booger sniffles since the day we picked her up. Three vet trips and four meds later we're at the $425 mark. Next is scoping for nasal polyps... that'll be pricey I'm sure.

Hope it doesn't turn out to be serious.

We took our cat back to the vet for a medical board for the next week and a half while we're out of town. I told the tech that if a serious medical issue arises we've decided it's time to put him down. If it's something small I authorized them to treat him, but we're not willing to pay $1,000+ for another lengthy hospital stay. At some point you just have to say enough. If the money we spent was improving his life I'd still consider it, but after all we've done there isn't much change.

Man, I wish I had the problem of having to spend $1200 on my cat. She (Payton)disappeared like 2 years ago. I brought her with me from Maryland when I moved to Florida. So many people would ask me, ''you brought your cat with you from Maryland when you moved???'' As if, it was weird or some shit, I love that cat.

She was awesome, she lived outside. Anytime I'd, or whoever lol, would pull in the driveway she'd jump on your lap as soon as you opened the door and start moew'ing, lol. If I walked somewhere from my house she'd follow me all the way down the sidewalk to the end of the block, then she'd stop and go back home. Then, when I return, as soon as I turned the corner onto my street she'd come charging down the sidewalk to me meow'ing her lil ass off!

I really ****'n miss her, a lot. My house aint rite without her here.

Hope yours gets better soon, Ole.
