1. The WS have the 8th highest payroll, chock full of SO's in the line-up.
2. Possibly the worst farm system in all of baseball.
3. 2 post-season trips in the past decade, even the Cubs(of all teams)somehow managed to exceed that.

Why is he still employed?...this guy could easily make the top 10 worst GM's in the history of Chicago sports.

1. He was removed from the GM position
2. He won a World Series Title
3. Dews won't like this, but the fans don't come out and support the team financially so it is harder to maneuver economically.

1. He wasn't removed, but rather promoted.
2. Title was 8 years ago, an eternity in the world of sports.
3. They are spending more than the Cubs and many other teams regardless of attendance. The $$ is being mismanaged in much the same fashion as a Jerry Angelo.

1. Same thing, no?
2. Give me a title every 8-12 years and I'd be one happy camper in a league of 30 teams
3. Uhm, yeah, now. Only Because the Cubs have quit on the MLB team.

He was just promoted last Fall, am I to blame the new GM Rick Hahn with 6 months on the job?. For all practical purposes, the 2013 roster is on Williams...along with the trainwreck farm system. Let's not forget the WS got hot at the right time to break an 80 year drought. Most Cub fans would be happy w/1 title in a lifetime, and therefore have less expectations.

Shouldn't that be a good thing in baseball, where there isn't a salary cap? I think its more of a crime that the Epstein Cubs aren't spending any money...one of the more idiotic things I've seen in terms of "building a winner".

Absolutely a good thing, not sure why Jerry keeps Kenny around...other than he's a likeable guy.

Epstein doesn't have to build a winner, as was evidenced by my last visit 2/Wrigley back in June. I had 4 tics to a rain delayed game for sale...they were gone as soon as I pulled them out. And it was already the second inning when I walked up. Cub fans have a well documented mentality even psychiatrists have difficulty understanding. I know this having been one for over 30 years, and ownership plays it to a tee. That's why Piniella was originally hired over Girardi, to sell more tics.

Don't forget that a lot of the farm is witht he Big Club. We could have a top three farm and a junkie MLB team or....

Some of you need to think before making a thread without proper info. he wasnt "promoted" in the sense because he did a great job, JR wanted him to stay in the organization because he was stressed out due to his divorce and that he wanted to spend time with his kids. if kw did what theos doing you would ***** about that too. I dont mind a team that is competitive enough to possibly win a division...(see last year) as it is a crap shoot to win a WS no matter a regular season record. now lets focus on who are GM is now, what did hahn do this offseason to be competitive? no one even knows his plan.

Always in love with KW ;)

The playoff appearances says it all for me. I agree with you, all you have to concentrate on is winning the division, as the playoffs is a huge crap-shoot. If the Sox had zero WS in 8 playoff appearances during KW's reign, then I would be on board with him. Unfortunately, they only made it twice and got lucky during that crap-shoot once.

And make no mistake - this 2013 team is 95% KW's team. Personally, I don't really like Hahn and will criticize him completely if this shit continues down the line, but this isn't "his team."

(BTW, off topic, but why is that bum your avatar? For a joke or are you really supporting him? I'm curious :) )

It is a good thing, but it says more about the owner. The Sox don't draw people, yet spend money because Reinsdorf loves the Sox. But when an owner gives you a a bunch of $$$ to spend, it is up to the GM to make that money count for production on the field. It is early, very early, but I don't see that production yet.

1. He won a WS
2. Farm systems are so over rated its pathetic. Sale,Becks,Reed, all drafted and playing on the big club. He swindled Youks for nothing last year and uses that "worst" farm system like no other GM in the game. Has a tendancy for getting established players for prospects.
3. He won a WS.

Has a tendancy for getting established players for prospects.>>>

>>>He certainly does, and the result has been Adam Dunn.

I'm not going to take anything away from that team, they earned the ring. Plus it's about the only bright spot on KW's resume.

Which wasn't a bad signing. He is doing everything he has done in his career.

Why is it that fans think players are gonna sprout wings or something and become Barry Bonds when history says different?

Thought it was a good pick-up at the time, now he reminds me of a Dave Kingman...wrong fit on the wrong team at the wrong time.

Just tank the season lol. This lineup is a joke. Our farm system isn't good because we have a lot of them up here right now.

The only good thing about being a seller at the deadline is that we have pieces to move and build.

Peavy,Rios,Floyd (if healthy) Dunn, Konerko, Ramirez, De Aza, Crain, Thornton can all bring back good to avg specs as teams will overpay at the deadline.
