Just wanted to post the news. From Doc Rivers and celticsblog.com

I'm getting this 2nd hand, but apparently Doc Rivers is on WEEI reporting that "there is a strong possibility he will miss the entire playoffs."

More updates as they become available.

Horrible, horrilbe news. I don' t even know what to say.

Edit: More quotes:

Doc Rivers said:
"He's not ready as far as I'm concerned he won't be ready for the playoffs...we will go on without him."
- not sure where this quote is from, but celtics forum reported it.

Doc Rivers said:
"After today, there's no way"
- Doc Rivers from Boston globe i think

I'm not saying I told you so.

I am pointing out how I'm not saying it, so you can draw your own conclusions on whether I told you so or not though.

You did not just say that B)

Honestly, this is crazy. We match up evenly, at the least, in all positions outside of Pierce, and play at a tempo that is terrible from a Boston POV.

I think even if this news turns out to be accurate that we'll be underdogs in the series, but it certainly gives us hope that we wouldn't have realistically had otherwise.

I really think Bulls have a puncher's chance. Just gotta steal a game in game 1.

I'd say the odds change from 95% losing the series to about 60/40 in favor of the Celtics. A lot will depend on how healthy John Salmons is as well.

If Salmons is unable to play at a high level then it probably drops back to 80/20 in favor of the Celtics. If Salmons is able to play at a high level then I think we're going to have a pretty reasonable chance at them.

And here, I have been blaming myself for starting that "Bulls will beat Orlando in the 1st round" thread.

:banghead:

Okay, I am NOT starting a thread "If KG IS out, we will beat Boston in 6" anymore.

Hopefully it's a GOOD thing?

I'm telling you this will come down to Rose's defense on Rondo..if he can just man up and not let him go off, this series will be longer than expected.

spot on.
from hoping to get 1 game the bulls SHOULD now be able to win 2 games in this series and give the celtics a run for their money.
if the bulls had a decent coach i'd think an upset was within the realm of possibility

If this is indeed true, dare I say the Bulls were better off losing last night? I certainly think the Celtics minus KG are no better than the Magic. Salmons, injured or not, needs to play better than he has the past four games.

My thoughts exactly. KG is boston's heart and soul.....this takes them out of competing for the title IMHO. I don't know that they could even get past Orlando now.

Thank you Toronto!!!!!! (but f*** you Calderon, I still don't like you.)

I think the Rose/Rondo matchup and the health of Salmons is what determines this series.

I agree with everyone that is saying that the Rose-Rondo matchup is critical. PG's like Rondo are the ones that give the Bulls the most trouble. We have struggled all year against small, quick guards (see TJ Ford, Rondo, Augustin, Jameer Nelson, etc.) because Kirk is better on big guards and Rose isn't a good defender yet. The Rondo matchup scares me. That said, Gordon shoot eat Ray Allen alive (but will also get eaten alive). The Salmons-Pierce matchup is HUGE. If Salmons is hobbled, Pierce could average 30+ against us. But if Salmons gets it together, he might put pressure on Pierce to expend himself on D.

I'm definitely expecting the series to go at least 6 games now, and probably 7. Might need to go update my over/under picks.

Oh my, I just woke up and saw this. I can't believe it. I did not think he was that hurt.
If that's the case, then the Bulls are much better off obviously. While I liked the Orlando matchup I still thought they would lose.

Now without Garnett, this is going to be a 6/7 game series. I don't know if it's a tossup, I think Boston is still the favorite. But it's gonna be interesting.

Celtics.com says he's sitting out the entire series against the Bulls at the very least.

Celtics are still a good team. They're like the 06-07 Bulls without him. A team dependent on a robust defense who gets their offense from a few scorers.

This team did beat the Cavs at home without Garnett. They also beat Philly without KG and Ray Allen. I already have some friends saying we're gonna win the series. I'm not going that far. They're still the defending champs and won their fair share of games without KG.

And the Bulls are still the team that choked at home against a crappy Raptors squad.

I hate to be happy that KG is injured, he's a class act. But it's great for the Bulls chances. I thought this might happen, I said so in one of the threads discussing which seed we'd want before the last game. Just had a hunch, since they were kind of quiet about KG's situation, that there might be more there than meets the eye.
