Baron Davis has a herniated disk in his back and wont play til at least Feb.

But when he gets back, he definately will make them better...
And yes, I agree with all of you that there defense sucks, but they will be at least the second highest scoring team in the east......Baron, Staudamir and Melo are all 25+ a night scorers when at there best.....

Baron Davis is out of shape half of the time and he is old on top of that. They have a thin front-line. Their defense is going to be below average and their rebounding is marginal at best. Their offense is obviously better than the Bulls but not by a significant margin.

Staudamire-Melo-Chandler is a thin front line????????? LoL, yeah okayeeeeee...

Baron Davis is old but he is still a clutch 4th quarter scorer...

Baron Davis is not the answer. Neither is Douglas. In my opinion, the Knicks are still handicapped for the next 2-3 years until the salaries of their 3 all-stars give them more flexability.

The STARTING front line for the knicks has some nice potential but nothing to gasp about, yet. The knicks will need to build their bench in order to contend this year. We'll see if they mesh immediately, but I wouldn't be suprised to see them struggle for the most of the shortened season. Plus, Chandler MUST stay healthy because Amare isn't exactly made of reinforced steel and Anthony MUST become the primary scoring option with efficiency because his defense won't make up for too many missed shots.

I don't see the Knicks becoming "beast of the east" without a bench.... Who is the head coach again?

Love Jimi.

Look at who is the back-up for 'Melo, Amare, and Chandler and then tell me if they are thin at those positions again.

Fine to be more specific, they have a GREAT STARTING FRONTLINE and a WEAK BENCH FRONTLINE............

All I'm ponting out is that the Knicks are starting to become a team we cannot take lightly anymore.........They arnt the Eddie Curry-Jamal Crawford Knicks anymore.......

I just think its funny how Amare is like, We dont need baron blah blah blah but a couple days later they sign him!

I actually dont want to see them in the playoffs of they get hot for a series they can beat anyone... But you have to have defense to make a dead run!

I don't think defense can be taught..
Defense is about the will to do it or not.
These are professional NBA players and they know how to defend, they just havnt put the work in on that end of the floor.....if they do, they would be very deadly....
Maybe Chandlers example will rub off on his teamates....

One thing for sure, the knicks will be fun to watch again...
And I hoppe the Bulls kick the living shit out of them...that will be even more fun to watch.

I don't think Phil Jackson will come back and coach again he is too old and he is happy with his 11 championships.

The Knicks are nowhere near being Beasts in the East. To be a true championship contender, not only do you need talented players, you need offensive & defensive balance, depth, & team chemistry. Other than talent, NY has none of these qualities.

Signing a fat, washed up PG, who's missed 48 games the last 3 seasons doesn't make them much better. In fact, they are worse at the position now that Billups' experience & leadership is gone. Baron hasn't played in a meaningful playoff series in nearly 5 years. They signed Chandler to a ridiculous contract to play defense for a coach who's never heard that word before. Knock Dallas' D all you want, but their overall team defense was middle of the road before Chandler arrived & it wasn't truly lockdown last year til the playoffs rolled around. NY's D has been in the bottom 3, every season D'Antoni has been head coach. 1 lanky shot blocker is not going to suddenly changed that.

I second that motion, Diddy. Playing defense is a "want-to" type of deal, but if your leader (HC) doesn't emphasize that pricipal, how well does everyone think their defense will fair?

I personally LOVE the fact that Thibbs is SOOOO defensive minded, but I wouldn't be opposed to having an offensive guru (in the mold of Winters, Jackson, D'Antoni) as an assistant coach.

Love Jimi.

Jeepers guy......

I said that to at the top of the page...
Like you just sayed, defense is a "want to" type of deal....
You have to bwant and dedicate yourself to play defense...
What if Melo and staudamire decide to want to play defense???

And with the Knicks investing so much into there new line up, I would think that Dantoni is on thin ice and very possibly could be fired unless New York Knicks management is Special person...and in recent years there management has been just that.....Special person....

Either way, the knicks are at the very least, interesting again......right? :dunno:
