From Lebrun:

Leafs get Versteeg and the rights to winger Bill Sweatt in exchange for forwards Viktor Stalberg, Chris DiDomenico and Philippe Paradis

Would that go down as the worst trade in the history of the NHL?

I am a Steeger fan but Chicago fans overrate his ability so much, especially the newer fans who don't know as much about hockey. Versteeg is a really hard worker on the forecheck and backcheck and has an average skill set. Losing a half a point per game player is not a big deal. I am not saying I wanted us to get rid of him but we still need cap space moving forward and I am glad it was Steeger and not Sharp that was moved (especially because there were rumors that Sharp would be traded to Toronto). We are thin at center and losing Sharp who has a better skill set would have hurt the team.

The players we got in return are average prospects, Stalberg has NHL experiance but has not done much. Paradis is the player I like, he has a ton of potential. I don't think we got fair value in return but I also don't know what the market was for Versteeg, I thought it would be higher considering his age and his performance in the playoffs this season and the fact that he was contending for the Calder last year.

Also look on the bright side, this means that we are almost certain to keep Ladd as well as gives us room to resign Seabrook at some point during this season.

Thank you. Even I know that Versteeg isn't as great as most Hawks fans make him out to be.

Paradis is the player I like in this deal as well, nice young, talented center with versatility and two-way upside.

I agree, and I think Sweatt is better than all 3 of the players we got. I don't understand the fairness in the value of this trade. I am also not on the Hawks scouting staff and don't have all the video and information they have on the players we got.

I am only pointing out Versteeg is not the irreplaceable superstar that most new Hawks fans like to think he is.

Maybe so, but all three together, especially Paradis and Stalberg, make it a worthwhile trade. Maybe you're the clown.
Stalberg did make the Leafs last year but did nothing (I think he ended up -18) with only 18 points in 40 games. Paradis is still a very raw talent, he has the physical tools but still is not as polished as Bill Sweatt was.

I understand what you're saying. Versteeg seemed to wait too long to get the puck to the net. At times it worked (see game winner versus Vancouver), but most of the time it left me like "why???". He was definantly a creative factor on the team, and at some points, could make things happen out of no where.

Versteeg was my second favorite player, personally, so I hate to see him go, but not in this way. I know they could've gotten a better deal than Stalberg and two no name prospects.

Also, keep in mind everyone, that Dave Bolland didn't even get to play a majority of last season, so in a way, he takes over for Versteeg. They play a very similar style of hockey.

I don't like how young the Hawks are getting though. Theres no need for this much of an age change. I don't see much more change in the future though. Sharp is here to stay thankfully, as well as Ladd.

So long Versteeg. We'll miss you, and I wish you nothing but another trade so you don't have to play in shitty Toronto the rest of your career.

Son of a *****....this wreaks of Hawks going cheap and not buying out Huet. If thats the case, Im hugely disappointed in the franchise. I believe that they were already under the cap if they pulled the plug on Huet and ate the contract. With all the money they're taking in, this is a step back in time to the Dollar Bill era.

Buff trade=fully understandable

Steeger trade=mysteriously stupid

Read up on Paradis, he's probably going to end up as the best player we got out of this deal.
