Name 10 better guards in the NFL

Plenty of guards in the league that are better than Long. Since he became injury prone, he might not be much better than average now

Eric Kush has been the best development we've seen on the line in the last couple years. Sad but true.

Hopefully Daniels can change this.
OMG

Finally the branes show up on this board.

2016 Eric Kush was just as good as Long's best days without the first round pick and garbage tweets. His loss in 2017 was huge in Trubisky eating a whole room full of sacks his rookie year and forced Pace to draft his third centre that may be a guard, but not really after he gave Kyle Long a check for ten million in Kyle's hospital bed.

Good to see Kush getting his feet back in Week One for a strong 2018 campaign and Long to flame out soon enough giving way to that Iowa kid.

You're entitled to your opinion.

But the most important factor to being a good player in the NFL is being available to play.

So, you're wrong.
Playing through a torn labrum till he mangled his ankle. Then playing through the same torn labum. Till he mangled his hand then, playing through the mangled hand till the team shut him down. I dont hold it against players for getting injured playing a violent sport especially when they have shown the willingness to play injured.

I realize i'm a bit late on this one considering week one is in the books, but better late than never i suppose.

BARRING INJURY TO OTHER LINEMEN, i'm predicting week 8 to be the last week we see Long in a Bears uniform, or at least starting in a bears uniform. Though i doubt his conditioning and current physique will allow him to stay healthy past week 8.

After reviewing film of last weeks debilitating loss to the packers, i counted 8 plays where he appeared to "take off" because he was completely gassed. 3 of these plays were before halftime.

Truth of the matter is - even with the Bears attempts to hide Long on the interior right side, he still sticks out like a sore thumb. There's no way the Bears dont cut ties after this season. Essentially a 99% chance he's with another team next season (if he doesnt retire)

Where you all standing on this matter? Any predictions?

LOL......Your'e late. I expected this 2 minutes after you guy's were unbanned. I know you really have your issues with Long but it almost seems personal. Did he kick your ass at Fortnight? Block you from his twitter?

Just curious.
Welcome Back

That's great you don't hold players accountable for their availability. NFL coaches and GMs don't hold that same philosophy.

Players lose jobs to injuries and inefficiency all the time. It happens on almost every team every year.

Long is not the same player he was in 2015. Period. If you have any knowledge at all of linemen play, and watch the game with your eyes, it's very apparent he is struggling. Again.

It's time to stop living in the past.

So there was tons of pressure coming from the interior?? I don't recall seeing that? Most of the pressure was coming off the edges. I thought Howard ran pretty effectively and I happen to recall a screen play where Long erased a linebacker 9 yards or so downfield. It seems most of the hate stems from the fact Long has had freak injuries 2 years in a row. But when healthy he looks pretty damn good to me.

Can't remember thread, is what was some type of prediction thread, but I did say Kyle Long would miss games because of injury... I haven't seen the report... Is he on the report as doubtful?

If he plays 16 games we should trade him in the offseason.

Extremely unlikely with the way his contract is structured, unless he was traded for peanuts.

I know the monetary side of football escapes most people here, but he is a prime cut candidate this offseason. It would result in only 3m dead cap... his salary is ridiculous for 1) a right guard, and 2) what the bears have gotten in return.

So Kyle, is going to be what 30? I would be ok with cutting next offseason... He hasn't been anywhere near what he was his 1st 2 yrs....

It is unfortunate that Kyle has been injured, but the NFL is about performance... Being on the field injured and not performing is just as bad as being on IR IMO.... Kyle just can't stay healthy... He's never been as technique guy, maybe because he doesn't have the best technique, he gets injured easier...

That says nothing..I don't really recall Kyle getting worked there was the holding call that negated a good Howard run. Mitch had time and room to step up all game the interior played a real solid game. The general narrative is that Mitch ran when he didn't have to.

I dont think you understand the lack of significance RG holds in pass protection.

It's partially why Kyle Long is playing on the right side..

As if teams can't scheme to create a 1 on 1.

I feel like we are getting into a debate about the person and not the player... Kyle is a great guy, I don't think anyone will argue that... But Kyle has never developed good technique, not totally his fault, a lot has to do with the previous regimes... It's sad actually considering the athletic ability he had/has... I don't know with his injury history if he will ever return to the beast he was the 1st 2 yrs he was here....

Unfortunately, IMO relying on his athletic ability now is/will be a detriment long term for a team on the rise.. I don't know if he has the ability to even learn good technique at his age.... But I have been wrong before... Just ask my wife.
