That sucks. I am sure that someone will somehow blame this on the Cubs front office in 3,2,1.....

Nah! It does however more than likely add another year to the progress though. This will be just another piece of the puzzle that will not only have to be replaced, but probably paid for too.

Who knows, maybe the Cubs will get lucky and have success with some of the AAA guys or newly acquired relievers like Parker, Negrin, Putnam, Sanchez, or Burnett?

Negrin is an intriguing guy for the pen.

He is an intriguing option, but the fact that he isn't on the now full 40 man roster probably makes it less likely that he will come up. Guessing Sanchez gets a shot before Negrin does. This is of course after Burnett sucks.

Fujikawa will go on 60 day DL opening a spot on the 40 man roster.

And of course it needs to be pointed out that you thought Brandon Wood was intriguing enough to trade Aramis Ramirez for.

You think anyone under the age of 22 in a baseball uniform is intriguing.

CHICAGO -- Cubs pitcher Kyuji Fujikawa is expected to undergo Tommy John surgery on his right elbow Tuesday.

Fujikawa will be examined by orthopedic specialist Dr. James Andrews on Monday. An MRI exam in May revealed ligament damage to the reliever's elbow.

The right-hander felt some discomfort on his first pitch to the Reds' Joey Votto in the ninth inning May 26, though he finished the at-bat. That was his second inning of work, and Votto was the seventh batter he faced in the game.

He compiled a 12.46 ERA in five games in April before going on the disabled list from April 13-May 10 because of a strained right forearm. When he returned, Fujikawa looked much sharper, and allowed only one earned run over 7 2/3 innings in seven games for a 1.17 ERA.

In 12 games, Fujikawa posted a 5.25 ERA, giving up seven runs over 12 innings. This is his first season in the Major Leagues.
