Thats big. Cause now Cubs cant overpay a Mapels in 14 RD. overpay a Dunston JR in 17 RD... So yes the draft cap is going to hurt the cubs even more

The draft slots basically guarantee that a true first round talent is signed in the first round. If a kid wants to go to college and forego $2-3MM, that's his problem now. The guys chosen in the 14th round are going to be true 14th rounders from now on, and that's on the scouts to make sure they get the best 14th round talent possible. Yes, the slot caps are going to hurt, but they're not devastating. Plus if they deem a kid to be that awesome, some teams will actually incur the overage tax and forfeit a subsequent first round pick to sign him.

It definitely won't be as easy to stockpile draft picks or to build the farm just by throwing money at the issue like in the past, but something will get done. There's too much brainpower (we hope anyway) in the front office to not be able to exploit some loophole somewhere.

Another thing that going to hurt the Cubs is when Theo was in BOS he was known for letting guys go to get comp so he had extra picks. He wont have that option now with Cubs. Since no more Type B and only Type A is when players sign for 12 mil + in FA

Yup. There's some leeway in overslot signings, extra lottery picks and maybe even trading picks in the new CBA but for the most part you can't snatch up 50 picks like the Rays did last year. The Cubs also have nobody who's worth giving arbitration to in order to grab that draft pick.

Trade Garza, Soto, Byrd, etc. for some high-round picks and prospects... I'm all for that!

Soto needs to have bounce back year to get trade market up. Byrd wont fetch much cause on last year of deal and older. Garza i still keep to build with. Every team needs a vet starting pitcher. Garza been in playoffs plus WS
