It's really not that much. I've made a couple long drives this summer and it's a lot better than trying to find some local station. Also, a lot better than the girlfriends IPod.

how much is it?

and I guess it is worth it if you drive for long periods of time.

and I agree about the girlfriends Ipod. when I was with my ex, her Ipod went missing on our roadtrip to Florida :tiptoe:

hahahahaha

what other rock stations are there in chicago?

I listen to Q101, 97.9 the loop, and 95.1 wiil rock. I really like 95.1, but the signla is pretty bad.

Local:

97.1 The Drive (gotta like a lot of older stuff though)

95.9 The River

100.7 WRXQ (signal sucks even by me, but I listen to the web stream at home quite a bit)

Out-of-market:

93.3 The Planet, a station out of South Carolina that's not afraid to rock your face off.

I think I paid $140 for the year, but that was back in February. It went down from the year before.

Very bummed about this. It's a HUGE shame that there is currently not a new rock station in Chicago, which is a great source of rock music. Hopefully that changes, and soon.

Oh for sure. They played a ton of great music, too. Felt like they didn't have anywhere near as many commercials as Q101, but I'll bet that was part of the reason they went under.

I remember one day, out of nowhere, I turned on what was supposed to be the Zone and I heard a Temptations song. It was a kick in the pants.

i was so pissed. 95.1 is kinda like 94.7 was, but the signal sucks.

I'll have to check that out.

Had a friend who won tickets to one of a Zone Night Out (I think they only had two of them), got to see Chevelle, Taproot and Velvet Revolver. Really a great show.

Q101 could have saved themselves. It's called, stop sucking! They had 2 years of solid radio hosting, and that carried them for a LONG time. Oh well, I wont miss it.

I'll miss it. I really havent listened to that station or radio in general for awhile but if I was to listen to a station it would be Q101. My favorite radio station. It sucks.

93.1 XRT isn't that bad, though I think it's on the decline.

Not having Q101 in town means that, right now, there is no local radio station for any rock bands in the area to be discovered. They'll have to go somewhere else to get their music out. I know the Internet has made a revolution in the way music is distributed to the masses, but there's still something to be said for getting your band's song played on the radio. It's a shame that won't happen in Chicago, for the immediate future.

I think, with the way you can post stuff on the internet, the radio is playing less and less of a factor in new and upcoming bands. Not a lot of radio stations (Q101 included) played much local or indie bands. They did have Local 101, but that was only a hour or so a week, and also at the time were the least amount of people listen.

I'm just sad that I can only listen to Bob and Tom for about half my morning drive. Then I lose the signal.

Chicago radio died when Rock 103.5 went silent.
