I would agree with that. Bruce would be worth trading for. Never would happen in division and all but he is they type wanted in LF.

Oh, I don't know. albeit not as big, they traded Marshall for Wood. Sometimes you have to just roll the dice if you want said player. There is always a risk when giving up a prospect, but that's why you have a lot of them so you can afford to do it. Happens all of the time where some team is on the short end. You just hope it's not yours.

Sorry Dews. Gotta disagree here. I want no part of him. Talent is there, but I feel they would be taking a step backwards. The Justin Upton rumor is interesting however, and if I had to trade for someone, I might be more inclined to get a left handed bat like Jay Bruce or something as the reds might want to dump some salary in order to save some money for pitching from their team. Maybe the Cubs could do a prospect package, or trade Baez to them?

However they choose to, I am leaving this in the FO's hands. The first real year that they have made moves, and I have a hard time arguing much, if anything that they have done wrong.

Yea I would do whatever it took to get Upton but only if we sign him to a long-term extension as part of the trade deal? I'm not interested in a rental.

Upton isnt a trade at all cost for guy, but he is a very good player. He is also in his prime. I would have to see what they want, but I am still hanging on to Bryant, Baez, and Russell in my opinion. I know, I know I am a Baez fan boy but I so believe in this guy. I would trade Russell before either of them.

I think Bryant, Soler, and Russell should be untouchable. Everyone else can be traded. I could see the Cubs trading Russell though as he is a very valuable asset. If the Cubs want to add an impact player for this season they may have to, but I wouldn't be willing to do so for a rental player like Zimmerman or Upton. If they signed extensions, or if the Cubs really were WS contenders it would be a different story, but for 2015 I don't think that is smart.

I hem and haw about Baez, but Soler should be untouchable. He is very fundamentally sound.

Watching Soler after his call-up was something, wasn't it? He looked really, really good -- which is interesting because at one point I thought he was mostly likely to bust out. It'll be interesting to watch his ability to adjust when pitchers get the scouting report on him. But man, he looks nasty.

Gomes it is, then. Platoon with Coghlan in left.

Our outfield could be patchwork if Alcantara don't improve.

I'm not as down on Gomes as some Cubs fans seem to be. It's not like he'd have a huge role here. But he'd add to the winning culture we're trying to develop. When you bring in guys like Joe Maddon, Lester, etc -- these people are used to winning. The more guys we acquire who are used to winning - the easier it is to develop the culture.

For a while, Soler sort of became the forgotten man due to his injuries, but a number of scouts I've heard described him as the "safest" of all the Cubs big prospects.

Even over Babe Ruth Jr (Bryant)?

Why/How did the Offseason discussion wind up under a thread entitled Yoenis Cespedes?

Hello?

Dews started preaching some nonsense about trading Bryant for either Harper or Cespedes.
