I can't think of many worse places to be stuck in than a bar in central Indiana, went to college in Muncie.

That aside, 2010 didn't do a whole lot to increase the popularity of the NHL. Hell, the Hawks still have a tough time getting press coverage in their own city.

Yet, since Hawks won it all after the last Olympics...the topic is rather moot I suppose.

Ya know what's worse than Muncie? Anderson.

With the salary cap projected to be $71.1M in 2014/15, the Hawks can have virtually the same roster they have this season. Handzus, Brookbank and Khabibulin will leave and a few of the prospects will be promoted. Re-sign Raanta to a $2M bridge contract, give Smith and Bollig a bump in salary and there you go - still under the $71.1M cap. Then with the Canadian TV deal kicking in, the salary cap will jump another $7M or so just in time to re-sign Toews and Kane to identical 8-year / $9.5M deals, re-sign Saad and Leddy to $4M bridge contracts, give Kruger a bit of a bump, let Oduya and Roszival walk and promote a couple prospect d-men and here you go:

Things have changed a bit but the core still looks stronger than ever.

I'm in favor of keeping forwards 1) Toews 2) Kane 3) Saad 4) Teuvo 5) Hossa 6) Sharp 7) Kruger 8) Shaw adding Panarin, Danault, McNeil and some veteran nasty to the mix.

If we get Reilly things are going to get stupid if him and Johns are an offensive defenseman and a defensive defenseman and the real deal. Still have Pokka for trade bait or future. If its time for Sharp to leave then fine, but I think it definetely is a big chip away at our dynasty status. Its the overwhelming number of stars that keeps all our lines nightmares to contend with.

I'm one of those that doesn't even want to think of the D word until we win the next one.

Had to laugh upon stumbling across this old article

"The question was even posed about the Chicago Blackhawks in 2010 until the salary cap crushed that reality."

"But in the salary cap age when big-market NHL teams can’t throw money around like the Yankees or Boston Red Sox to build a roster, can’t cut players without consequence as an NFL team can and can’t dedicate most of their payroll to just two or three star players to run roughshod on the league as often happens in the NBA, the traditional hockey dynasty is an endangered species."

How you clearing cap space? I would think Sharp almost has to go. Bicks, too, and since you didn't list him I assume he's gone in your scenario.
