I remember watching games in the late 60's on WGN Channel 9. If I remember right, they were broadcasted in black and white. There were limited amount of theaters that showed the 70-71 and 72-73 playoff games. I had a buddy with an older brother who had a car, we went to either the Berwyn or Olympic to watch a couple games. It was so weird to watch the game on the big screen and hear Loydds voice. The games were kind of grainy looking....no HD back then

I watched some of that series at the old Beverly theater. The adults screamed at the refs on the 'closed-cicuit' movie screen as though they were at the Stadium and the ref's could really hear them! Lloyd was the best, bar none, but John Weideman is a close second with Pat right in there in his old radio days. I also recorded Lloyd's calls but only have the '71 series final game left, with Harvey doing the 'color'! On tv I'd hear the tom-tom beat of "from the land of sky-blue wa...haw..ters..." of the Hamm's Beer Bear and rush to the 19" b&w set to watch the games with my dad on either channel 5 or 9 with Jim West at the microphone.

I was also fortunate enough to meet Ray Raynor several years ago at the old Museum of Broadcast History and thanked him for playing the Hawks highlites on his show. He was a wonderful guy!

For you Stadium nostalgia fans, the prize on my next contest at the TIBSTRA STUDIO (www.artsbit.com) will be a unique cd of some rare stereo recordings I'm currently remastering of the great Al Melgard at the Barton organ in the Chicago Stadium. These are some of the first commercially recorded STEREO tracks of any kind. Sorry, no "Here comes the Hawks" ( I don't believe a true recording from the Barton organ of that exists )-but lots of great memories of the music Al played during intermission and before/after the games. watch for it and Go Hawks!

There is a recording of here come the Hawks from the old Barton. Right before the Stadium was taken down there was a convention of organ enthusiasts that held it's meeting at the ol' Stadium. Frank Pellico played the ol gal, many different songs to the delight of the fans. The last song he played was here Come the Hawks. That was the last song played on it. So I have been told anyway.

The whole thing was recorded. If you want, I will try to find my copy.
