Any suggestions?

Right now, I have Beats. Still in good condition, sound pretty good for mixing and listening to hip hop music, but I want to upgrade to more audiophile headphones. Something that will do well with music and video games (no mic, don't need one). I just got a PS4 and I want something that will really bring out the sound but still sound good if I want to watch movies or TV on the CPU, or just listen to music. Personally, I've narrowed it down to Audio Technica ATH-MT50s or Sennheiser HD598. Does anyone have either of these, or suggest another pair I might want to look into? I want to keep it under $200.

wife bought me some bose for christmas. I love them but they're flimsy. Might be my giant head though. Before those had grados. Also destroyed them with my enormous head.

My Bose aren't flimsy. I've had them for probably close to 10 years and the only thing that's gone is the shitty fake leather lining on the ear pads. Guess the pads might be a bit worn too, but they're still comfy. Bose are overpriced from what I understand though. I've got the QC2's.

I'm a big Sennheiser fan. I'm on my 4th or 5th pair. I lost track.

Edit> Just keep in mind if you go with 598's (which is my current pair), everyone will be able to hear what you are listening to. But the sound stage is incredible.

Same went with my Grados, but they probably had the best sound I've had in a pair of phones thusfar

I know they're open, but I'm not concerned with that. I won't be taking them out of the house. I've been leaning towards them honestly, but want to do my due diligence.

How do they sound with different types of music? I've heard they're not great with metal, but other than that it's been glowing reviews. I heard they're great for gaming and movies as well, which is why I'm leaning towards them.

I've never listened to metal on mine, but I would think it would sound pretty good. The lows don't rattle your head or anything, but the bass is clean and tight. They have great clarity across the whole sound spectrum (probably a better audiophile term for that). Anything that has a lot of detail (e.g. acoustic guitars sound fucking amazing) is really their strong suit IMO.

I think every review has said that too. I've been a fan of Sennhesier since my college days when I was in the studio laying down sound tracks and such for my radio/tv production classes. Don't know the model but those things were amazing.

No doubt. I'm not going to shit on them like everyone else does because I think they are really good for rap/hip hop and bass heads, and they're better than people give them credit for, but I wish I would've went with some Senns originally. I figured since I was able to get a $300 pair of Beats for $100, I got a steal. In the end, I probably payed their actual worth and would've been better going to audiophile quality from the get go. But they served me well, and I'll probably trade em to my cousin for a few bucks or a favor.
