A decade of memories with the blood diamond and king of showtime...Ill miss the humor in watching Deng look down at his feet to dribble a basketball, his missed close range layups and awkward moves to the basket....the fun....the excitement......the memories.....He will be missed.....well..at least until his replacement Melo arrives.... then he'll be forgotten.....lol

I like Luol. I wish him well.

I just think it was time to move on. Especially since he wanted too much money.

Someone will pay him.....hes one of the top elite wing defenders in the league and 2 time allstar....hes a living legend.

I agree, hoped he would be traded, and think it's time to move on. But the bold part. How much did he want?

12-13 million a year. I assume he wanted 5 years too. For a guy with a lot of miles, a nagging injury history and exiting his prime soon, I don't think he would have been worth that.

I don't remember reading anything official, or from inside sources. Just that the Bulls halted talks after one meeting in the middle of the negotiation process.

From what I had gathered through Twitter snippets and blogs, The Bulls were willing to do a Paul Millsap offer (two years @ $9.5MM annually) and he was looking for something closer to what David West got from the Pacers (three years, $36MM). I side with the Bulls on that negotiation front: if the Bulls were willing to do three years, $30MM, I wouldn't mind that. Anything more is just too much for a guy who, at best, will continue his current level of play for the next few seasons. The injury concerns will always be there at this point, due to the way Thibs overruns his starters.

Always played his ass off, played hurt, and played more minutes than anyone in the NBA for part of his career. Smart, fun to watch. Yeah he'll be missed. And yes, it was time.

Always had a tremendous amount of respect for Deng(not just because he went to Duke haha).Just goes out there and does his job. He's been putting up some pretty solid numbers this season with Rose out. Wish him well.

Man, some Bulls fans go over the top. Deng was a solid player and a elite defender. It seemed time for him and the Bulls to part, but that guy gave the Bulls a whole lot in his career. He was the only one for a time that could frustrate LBJ a little bit. Not many can say that.

A salute to Lt. Deng. One of the best Bulls of this decade, and perhaps right up there with the Bulls greats of all time (though near the bottom there). He'll be missed.

The more that I think about this situation, the more I'm starting to believe that Luol Deng wanted to leave the Bulls when his contract ended this season.

The guy has clashed with the FO multiple times during his 9 years here.......

-The leg fracture. The FO labeling him as soft until Deng's 2nd opinion showed his injury was more severe than the team physician's diagnosis.

-The trade rumors involving the Lakers.

-The wrist injury that coincided with the Olympics. The FO wanted Deng to skip the games & have surgery, but Deng decided to play & turn down surgery.

-Article from last year in which Deng stated his unhappiness with the Chicago Bulls organization.

-The meningitis situation from last year's playoffs.

I think that Deng was leaving regardless & I think he wanted to be treated better than what the Bulls FO showed.

a guy on realgm that talked with Lu over the summer said Lu was leaving no matter what

i think he was pissed at the organization too and i think they were pissed at him for his comments how he was poorly treated with the spinal tap thing

thats why they refused to negotiate with him on a deal and offered him a low offer of 3/30 which they knew he would decline and they could atleast say "we tried"....but really they had no intentions of bringing lu back next year

That sounds about right.

Next time you log in over there, pull up the thread from last year regarding Luol's comments on being pissed at the FO. Also, pull up the one with GarPax's comments in regards to Luol's Olympic decision.
