Allen Cohen, an attorney for the Fisher family, said while Progressive's claim is technically correct that they did not serve as an attorney for the defendant, "Progressive did everything in their power to show that their own insured did something wrong. They were fighting against the person who paid them premiums."

To the surprise of Fisher, "At the trial, the guy who killed my sister was defended by Progressive's legal team," he wrote. "If you are insured by Progressive, and they owe you money, they will defend your killer in court in order to not pay you your policy."

This is literally disgusting. A guy runs a red light, kills this girl and her insurance company is trying to avoid paying up. Fortunately they won their court case.

This is one of the worst things I've ever heard, I would leave progressive if I had it.

Flo would never do such a thing. It must have been that damn Flobot.

Insurance companies do everything in their power not to pay out anything.

Well fucking duh. Tell me something that I didn't know. PROFIT PROFIT PROFIT PROFIT PROFIT that is all that matters to an insurance company. They are not your friend and they do not have your best interests at heart.

As to this story, I am glad the plaintiff won the case.

(oddly enough, my wife's uncle's name is Allen Cohen...not the same guy though, fortunately)

A car plowed into my Sentra (which was parked on the street) and their insurer (State Farm) paid only 50%. Why?

I didn't have a driveway at my house, so they felt I was partially responsible.

My insurance guy got fired over that....

I got hosed when a guy fell asleep on Interstate 290, and plowed into me.

They don't give one ounce of **** about you.

If you had a good experience with an insurance company, fine. I'm too biased to want to hear your story.

While gross, I bet you could substitute Progressive for any insurance company. In many ways, insurance companies arent a cause and stuck in the "chicken or egg" argument. As settlement awards and medical costs skyrocket, an insurance company needs to be shady to stay in business.

But they sure dont help at all either...

What a crappy situation... and any time you need to involve an insurance company, it is never good, easy, or anything short of frustration (by design).

I have Progressive. I will not be dropping them.

Why?

Cause every insurance company does this. Is it shitty? Yup. Is it sickening. Oh yeah. But every insurance company does this. If not this exact thing, something similar. For instance, if you get water in your basement from a storm or a back up and you call your insurance to cover it, I bet you won't get it covered. Cause you more then likely don't have flood insurance. And if you do, it won't be covered cause it isn't a flood.

They are insurance businesses, not insurance pay outters. And before we start throwing out the "big" word to describe business and insurance companies as evil, I would be willing to wager dollars to doughnuts that your 401k or other investments have a big insurance company in the portfolio.

This really takes the cake though when their lawyers are pretty much defending the guy that killed her. This isnt a flooded basement or a accident with no injuries. A guy ran a red light and killed her.

Jako, true eveery company fights you tooth and nail... except state farm who I had a really good experience with even though I don't have them anymore... .meh whatever... but the fact is I've never heard any one of them go to this extreme. If you think about it they basically sued their own client. I mean they had a witness called for the defense against their own policy holder. I would dump them. It's called good faith, and I don't know if you read the whole article but I liked reading the part about the good faith law in Maryland that requires an insurance company to act in kind for their policy holders. I really hope that they do pursue additional charges against progressive.

I agree, it is fucked up. But you're lying to yourself if you don't think any other insurance company has/would do this kind of thing. I know, a watery basement isn't the same as a life.

And it's also fucked up that there is a good faith law.

Actually, it may be a fantasy/role playing thing for him. He did post a picture of him and "Flo" at that game.

We must unearth that pic for our civil suit against Jako.

Gave us 4pts the past two games. Can't complain at all. Two of three goals were excellent plays. No question.
