Manning is 100 % right about Qb development and Mahomes. But who develop Manning ?
The guy who lost out to Eberflus in the HC hiring process of 2022..... Jim Caldwell ( he came in with a plan for JF during his interview )
Caldwell. was with Manning .........
  • Indianapolis Colts (2002–2008)
Assistant head coach & quarterbacks coach
  • Indianapolis Colts (2009–2011)
    Head coach
Currently....
Carolina Panthers (2023–present)
Senior assistant
He's 4 yrs younger than Pete Carroll

From the article below:
“The discipline of having that routine really made an impact on me,” Manning said. “I really felt like I just sort of took a step up during the years that he (Jim Caldwell) was my quarterbacks coach.”

Lions coach Jim Caldwell, Broncos QB Peyton Manning ...

To this day, I'm still irritated that Eberflus was chosen over Caldwell. Like what in the actual hell made Poles think that was a good idea?!? That's why I still think George had to have pushed that hire.

"That's why I still think George had to have pushed that hire"

Agreed !

Unfortunately....for Caldwell, being the better candidate, sadly, may not have been enough. The agent thing probably played a major role in who was hired, See articles below.

Ex-Bear Trace Armstrong Influenced Poles & Eberflus Hirings

New Chicago Bears GM Ryan Poles has same agent as top coach

I get that Caleb Williams had Shane Waldron and Thomas Brown but it's disingenuous to say he was learning a completely new system in the middle of the season. Brown took over play calling and MAYBE introduced some different plays but he didn't transform the entire offense in the middle of the season to the point it would be detrimental to his development.

There are plenty of things that Caleb Williams struggles with that go beyond coaching. The same seeing the field and getting the ball out on time and in rhythm plague Caleb the same way they plagued Justin.

Those problems are precisely why I didn't want to draft Caleb in the first place because he looks too much like Justin in the way he can't see the field and struggles with his progressions.

I guess we'll see if a new coach can better coach Caleb up. Lincoln Riley for all his QB acumen didn't develop Caleb Williams the way Andrew Luck was developed at Stanford by checks notes, Jim Harbaugh.

Pep Hamilton developed Andrew Luck, as well as, Justin Herbert. Let me know if u need proof.

We're not bringing Hamilton back to Chicago after he failed so miserably as a coach here.

I get that he's a likeable guy in the media and has "rebuilt his coaching reputation" in coaching circles but he hasn't found success as an offensive coordinator or settled into a long term career where he's found success.

Hamilton is one of those classic hang around guys because he's well liked but has done next to nothing in the NFL.

His name pops up every off season but he's done next to nothing to build any upward career momentum. He's the name everyone is familiar with and goes back to. He the classic long term retreat.

On defense it's Ted Monachino

For head coach it's Ron Rivera.

There's always the classic stand by hire.

You're projecting something I didn't say. I corrected you on who developed Andrew Luck. Also I think Hamilton had a hand in developing Orton into a good game manager.

I may be wrong, but I believe Tom Moore was more responsible for “developing” Manning. Your point still stands.

I was just pointing out what Manning said about Caldwell. Yes Moore was there in the beginning with Manning . Moore was a great coach.

Moore
  • Indianapolis Colts (1998–2008)
    Offensive coordinator
  • Indianapolis Colts (2009)
    Senior offensive coordinator
  • Indianapolis Colts (2010)
Senior offensive assistant & offensive consultant

Caldwell.
  • Indianapolis Colts (2002–2008)
Assistant head coach & quarterbacks coach
  • Indianapolis Colts (2009–2011)
    Head coach

Quick Tom Moore story....a reporter was watching the Colts practice and noticed that the backup QB never got any reps in practice. Only Peyton Manning got reps. So the reporter asked Tom Moore about it, and Moore said something like "If Peyton Manning gets hurt and the backup needs to play, then we are fu****, and we don't waste time practicing fu****."
