I still wonder why no Al McIsaac..........

The Chicago Blackhawks promoted Marc Bergevin to the position of assistant general manager replacing Kevin Cheveldayoff, who last week was named GM of the Winnipeg franchise.

The Hawks also extended the contract of senior advisor, hockey operations Scotty Bowman.

Bergevin moves up from his position as the team's director of player personnel, a post he has held since 2009. Before that, Bergevin was a Hawks assistant coach and scout and had a 20-year NHL career as a defenseman for Chicago and six other teams

The Hawks named Norm Maciver to fill Bergevin's player-personnel position, and named Kyle Davidson their hockey administration coordinator.

I don't think Eddie is an idiot, I actually think he's pretty smart when it comes to the game. I just don't like him in the booth, his voice annoys me and I just feel like he repeats himself a lot. I think the announcers have more variety in NHL 11 than Eddie does. Either way, usually when he does explain something, he does a pretty good job describing it in detail, also sometimes going as far as saying what they could have done differently. He might be able to contribute, but I'm still not sure how I feel about it.

He's got two styles-one for NBC/vs and one for the Hawk broadcasts. My friends who only see him on vs/NBC don't understand my intense dislike for him.

Blame it on McPimp.

Eddie is a good Analyst. He understands the game and I do appreciate that he will take the time to breakdown a play and show what went right and wrong.

The problem lies in his comedy routine with Pat and he's desire to not be ever seen as a homer in even the slightest in the national game.

But as for his hockey knowledge, Eddie knows the game.

****!!!! RK, you know losing Havi has been my greatest non-player fear. Shit. Why can't they (or anyone really) poach Q and all his fucking bumbling roster choices and inane manic line changing (which I know if it drives fans almost to a mental breaking point must make the players even MORE insane) and leave us Havi? This would blow and is SO not fair. First, Rockford decides to keep the same coaching staff and now this---potentially being stuck here with Q and fucking Kitch with NO Havi to balance those fools out. I HATE that goddamn extension Q was given last offseason! Grrrrrr.

Q is a good coach. His meddling with the line-ups I think gets exaggerated, in the end they are pretty consistent. It's pretty common for coaches to mix the line-ups during a game. And Q is also a good tactician and can run the bench better than most of the NHL coaches. He has a good feel of his bench and can make the adjustments in-game if something is not working. Compared to, say Alain Vigneault (a coach that has won the Jack Adams and guided his team to a PT), he is a wizard. As for Mike Kitchen, I am not impressed, but I will wait until next season if it improves or not. That said, Haviland is a great coach and hope he sticks around.

Eh, Q has never convinced me that he can do anything particularly extraordinary coaching-wise and his career success reads to me as being more a byproduct of his being gifted/handed very loaded, VERY stacked rosters like his Avs or obviously the SC Hawks. I don't feel the Hawks won in 2010 because of him and often felt it was in spite of him. His coaching looked as completely clusterfucked this past season as the roster did after the purge which I don't think helped matters if stuff is supposed to filter "from the top on down" as it were. In any event, I would prefer to see Havi leading this team with his own self-chosen assistants and still feel that we are saddled with Q and Kitch. Obviously, I have absolutely no contact with the players but I still would wager his coaching style or decisions drive some players absolutely batshit crazy.

personally I think Savard would have won the Cup with that team.

The Mactavish thing is not done per dregger so Haviland is still on the radar.

It's really kind of frightening and totally bumming me out thinking that Kitchen is ACTUALLY going to get a 2nd season here because he did jack shit to earn it IMO. Good lord talk about assistant coaching FAIL.

It could be argued that getting coach Q and his experience is just what the young Hawks needed to get things going. I am pretty sure that Savard wouldn't have gotten them into the WCF in 2009 which ultimately taught a thing or two to the team about what it takes to win. Had Savard coached the Cup team in 2010, then it's quite possible he could have gotten them to the promised land as well.

While I have sometimes criticized coach Q on his decisions, I still think he is the best option currently. And having Scotty signed on as an adviser for a couple of years more is comforting. I doubt coach Q is that stubborn that he wouldn't listen to what the best coach in NHL history has to say.

Oh, I think Q is willfully stubborn to the detriment of this team at times. I think the Bowmans and McD allow him a fair amount of leeway too because otherwise I'd get a "shades of Scotty Bowman in Detroit" feel or vibe about his coaching if they were making him listen to other's advice. I just hope they can FINALLY find some way to keep his befuddled lineup choices and panicking ass on a short coaching leash this upcoming season when I have such a great feeling and great excitement about getting back a refreshed, rejuvenated, remotivated, re-monied up team. Eh, to each his own. I'd rather have Havi coaching the team.
