He's gong to do just fine in the slot.

But he's not a game changer.

Overall, I think most people would say he's an older mediocre slot receiver. His stats back that. He will likely see action on most 3 WR sets.

But, as far as the #3 on the roster? It will likely be Wilson. Wilson is not a slot receiver. He's an X. He will likely be our #3 receiver - similar to how he was used over the last 2 seasons.
if white or Jeffery are injured royal will take the spot unless their is a 3wr set then i can see MW moving to the x that's it imo unless MW has a breakout camp and preseason

It's not just injury time. It's also when a receiver needs a breather because he just ran a 20+ yard route.

Royals is not an X or Z. Wilson can play either and have an advantage.

Royal is not a guy who can beat a CB at all - let alone coverage over the top.

And again, Wilson's top end is undefined. Royal's has been - and it's just mediocre.

Eddie Royal is a nice player. A much better fit as a slot receiver than Wilson. He is going to be the Wes Welker in Gase's offense and I think he will have a really nice season. He is a dependable guy who is really good at getting separation and finding the soft spots in coverage. Mike McCoy/Philip Rivers utilized him a lot in SD.

Wilson is going to be the #4 receiver who will only be relevant if there is an injury. I like Wilson as a #4 receiver as a nice fill-in for an injured wide out. That's about it though.

yea i can see him doing that for breathers but royal has played the x and y positions also, and i think gase and his past proves he will get the nod over MW barring injury

Please never compare him to Wes Welker again...

It's like comparing Cutler to P. Manning.

Yes, he was a very pedestrian receiver - 550 yards per year is on par with Forte...Our RB.

The whole #3 vs #4 thing is dumb. Wilson is an X or a Z. He is next up for either White or Alshon come out. which will happen on a game by game basis. And he will likely be used in many 3 WR sets as well.

Royal is a 5'-9", almost 30 year old, slower mediocre slot receiver who Cutler will probably ignore because he hates smurfs..

You went full Special person in this post...Never go full Special person.

1. Never compared Royal to Welker. I said he would play the same role as Wes Welker in Gase's offense.

2. He had 600 and 700 yard seasons in San Diego the past two seasons. His first year there, he only played 10 games so pulling an average is ridiculous. He also had 15 TD's the past two seasons. If you actually watched him play rather than just trying to judge him by statistics, he was a guy Philip Rivers looked to often when he needed a first down (39 of his 62 receptions last year were for first downs) and he was obviously a trusted target near the RZ as well despite his short stature. For a slot receiver, he is one of the better ones in the NFL.

3. If you continue to read what I said, Wilson is a nice fill-in for an injured wideout and by that I mean an X or Z receiver.

4. Royal is far from slow and Royal and Cutler combined for 91 receptions and 980 yards in Denver in Royal's rookie year...

Class is over.

You are actually using a 600 yard season as some proof that he should be mentioned with Welker?

And you are using his stats from 2008 as a basis for what he might do this year?

You are the one who is full Special person.

It doesn't surprise me from a guy who still keeps Rose as his avatar. A guy who completely quit on his team this year....

Once again, never said he was Welker. Said he would play the Wes Welker role. How many times do I have to tell you that before you understand?

You said Cutler will ignore him...He didn't in Denver.

Come to the Bulls board if you want to discuss D Rose. I am sure I can bestow some information on you about that as well.

Some of you truly, truly do not understand the concept of slot reciever.

Royal is one of the best in the game at that position.

Good lord, learn football please.

the bears sure as shit didn't pay royal $5 mil a season to sit behind wilson. he will be a slot receiver and on the field a lot. wilson has an uphill battle for playing time and will likely have to show on special teams to even be active.

I agree. He's a fantastic slot wr. I wish they had Earl back, but im more than happy with Eddie Royal.

Does anyone know what happened to Earl Bennett? He was such a great slot wr and after some injuries he fell off the map?
