From what I've read, we can walk away from his contract after this season.

He signed a two-year deal during the summer of 2012, so his deal will expire after this season. Every penny off the books counts, at this point.

Expiring contract and he is from Georgia(not the US state obviously)

1) Teague will never be a starter in the NBA. He can't shoot, and can't run an offense. Should have stayed at Kentucky. Next!

2) I hear a lot of Bulls fans talking about Mirotic. My understanding is we won't see him in a Bulls uni anytime soon. In fact, there's the real chance he may never play for the Bulls. If he's not willing or able to come here for a reasonable salary, they should package him in a trade.

He's only 20 years old, so he still has a chance to figure things out. James Johnson just figured things out all these years later.

I do agree that he's not good right now.

The NBA is still the crème de la crème of professional basketball.

He's coming to the Bulls.

Looks like a nice move to me. Hopefully Thibs lets him play some. Got the feeling this means Murphy to D-League now.

Well of course anything can happen. The universe is full of unlimited possibilities. As of right now though, he's not ready to play PG in the NBA and should have stayed in college.

As much as we have grumbled about Gar/Pax for not doing anything the last two years, except remove a really good bench, this season is something to watch. Tear it apart must have been the directive. Just got to find someone to take Boozer or amnesty.

What if that rumored trade of Hinrich & pick for Harrison Barnes becomes a reality. If we somehow traded Boozer before the deadline for expirings or amnestied him after the season, we could be looking at a line-up next season of:

Rose
Barnes
Melo
Taj or Mirotic
Noah

Mirtoic will probably get somewhere near 3yr/24mil. No way we could bring him over AND a max FA like Melo.

Yep. That's why I put "Taj or Mirotic".

If we wait another year to bring over Mirotic, we can afford to keep Taj. If we do bring over Mirotic after this season, we would have to trade Taj.

God I wish we could find a way to package Gibson and Boozer....

Boozer to Phoenix for Emeka Okafor's expiring deal and the rights to their first-rounder from the Pacers for next season.

Trade Taj Gibson and Mike Dunleavy to the Jazz for Marvin Williams' and Brandon Rush's expiring deals.

That'd put them at $35 million guaranteed salary before their draft picks and free agency, essentially keeping them right around $40 million in salary. Keeping a core of Rose (hopefully), Noah and Butler, throwing in whatever rookies, maybe Mirotic and whoever they could bring in during the free agency period.

Please, God. Please. Please. Please.

To be honest, I - for the longest time - would cringe at the thought of loosing Gibson. Mainly because of my fear that if Boozer is amnestied there will be a huge hole at PF. But the more I look at what is currently happening (trading Deng, Teague), this is clearly a goal to get under the luxury tax, and to not pay the additional penalty of being over for consecutive years.

That being said, the Bulls have successfully accomplished that with the Teague trade. Now I look at Gibson as being a highly overpaid back-up @ 8 mil (2014/15) which would hinder them at acquiring another max player.

So having looked at the big picture, finding a way to shed Boozer AND Gibson, gives them the option to chase a max player (if the opportunity presents itself), OR, 2-3 reasonably priced FA's.

But keeping Gibson prevents signing a max FA.

Not if we're removing Boozer's contract.

Correct me if I'm wrong, though.

EDIT TO ADD:

Of course, this is contingent on getting rid of Dunleavy also.

The Bulls will be over the cap if they sign a max player while keeping Rose, Noah and Taj. Unless they fill the bench with league minimum players like Miami, one of those three have to go, in addition to Boozer. No reason to keep Dunleavy around if they sign Melo(doubt it) or get a SF/SG in the lottery either.

We would have to take back salary in order to move Taj, though---no one is going to do the Bulls a favor and absorb his 9mil/yr.

I don't think that it would be terribly difficult to trade Taj. He's arguably a top 7 PF currently in the NBA, IMHO.

Whether it be because of adding Mirotic or adding Love/LMA, it would lead to us moving Taj.

For the record, I'm a HUGE Taj Gibson fan.
