I understand the point you are making, but it also sounds a lot like a Boqvist apologist.

From what I've seen, he is hot garbage on the defensive end. He has forward skills but is too small and weak for that position.

Honestly, I wasn't too keen on Boqvist when he was drafted on account of

A. His concussion history
B. His interview where he said he didn't want to be in the NHL for a couple years.
And C. There was an opportunity to trade down.

I don't think he's the second coming of EK, I do think he could be a solid defenseman in a couple years but when a complete beast in Hughes was taken in the same draft there's certain expectations hes never gonna reach that many think he could only because some draft experts had him pegged as being better then Hughes.

There were times last year he looked replacement level awful. And, there were times in the o zone he looked like the best player on the ice.

Many have considered it a flawed stat ever since its inception, actually. Honestly, sometimes I wonder if people even know what corsi really is. It mainly revolves around possession and shots on goal -- there is much more to an individual player's overall game, especially when critiquing a defenseman's overall game.

When you're judging an individual player, you judge his game overall. Corsi really doesn't tell you shit about an individual player, defensively -- again, it revolves more around the offensive side of the game.

Also, corsi doesn't take into account the type of opposition said player faces. Is said defenseman out against the opposition's top line? Or the fourth line? etc. Also, if a player is on a stacked team, he'll obviously have a better corsi.

So -- yeah, really. Stats indeed can be flawed. Ever hear of +/-?

TIL- puck possession doesn't tell defense. As in possessing the puck means your chances of being on offense far outweighs your chances of retrieving it. (Thumbs up)

And you just proved my prior point. That speaks more about a team's depth overall than about an individual player's performance. Also, again -- a player's corsi will be better against an opposition's lower lines.
