Hmmmm... Corey Brewer doesn't fit D'Antoni's scheme. Something tells me he isn't going to the Knicks after all the deals are finalized.

knicks have screwed themselves short AND longterm.

they've got no depth and no way of improving now. they're in salary cap hell for the rest of eternity again. and amare will blow out his knee soon, especially with the minutes he's being played.

not impressed at all with these knicks. i still think the hawks are better.

Yes, I am tired of hearing about this. Kinda wish he was going to New Jersey instead of NY though.

people keep saying that, but how many minutes did you see gallo playing at sf/pf? sf and pf are the knicks two best positions. PLus it's such a loaded position, that i'd think you should be able to find a replacement.

we're talking more pg, c and sg. felton was a perfect pg for this offense and billups is not at all. chandler was the knicks best wing defender and starting guard. fields can step in there but there's no one behind him but azuibuike who hasn't played in two years. mozgov is gone so now there's no centers left on the roster. that's the real problem.

it's over. Can the knicks be better than a 6th seed?

Not a hope in hell. My only worry is that Billups is an upgrade on Felton (at least for this season where age doesn't matter) since he can actually shoot which makes the pick and roll with Amare much more dangerous. But the rest of the team is at best treading water with how much got sent out for Melo.

I'm calling it now ... even with the trade I think Philly passes them for the 6 seed

Billups is not a better player than Felton. Just aint the case. This trade has Isiah Thomas all over it...now that Adrian W. mentioned it.

It's finally over like everyone has already said. The Knicks roster has very little depth, to no one's surprise, but I wouldn't count them out. Melo and Stoudamire can get 30 points each on any given night, plus Billups is good for about 15 and some clutch play so between those 3 they should have some fairly decent offense. Plus they kept Fields who has been playing really well at the 2 for them. Billups, Fields, Melo, Amare, Turiaf...that's not too bad. Plus they have Douglas off the bench who is decent and some players who can get hot in Bill Walker and Shawne Williams.

PG-Billups/Douglas
SG-Fields/Douglas/Walker
SF-Melo/Shawne Williams
PF-Amare/Sheldon Williams
C-Turiaf

I predict a lot of small ball since D'Antoni likes to run that anyway. Billups, Douglas/Williams, Fields, Melo, Amare.

Not really one of the best teams, but I wouldn't count them out. Melo's going to come to play every night.

I'm really tired but here are some of my thoughts over this. The Knicks are definitely a better team today than they were yesterday.

Billups hasn't slowed down that much yet. He's definitely a better player than Raymond Felton and will benefit from Amare Stoudemire in the pick-and-roll game (as Felton did).

The Knicks still have their starting SG, Lanry Fields, and bench combo-guard, Toney Douglas. That is huge for them.

As for Carmelo Anthony... he's not as good of a shooter as Danilo Gallinari... but he is pretty acceptable in this category as well. Plus, he can be a post scorer and jump out of the gym... He's a better passer, rebounder, and defender too. He will be able to play a lot of PF to cover what Wilson Chandler used to do for them.

Okay, I'm falling asleep. All in all, great move by the Knicks but they will still likely be the 6th seed and it will be interesting to see if they can get a Kendrick Perkins-like center next year or in two years. I hope the new CBA will screw them though (and the Heat).

Billups is easily the better player on the Knicks. D'Antoni needs a point guard that can shoot, given it's a pick and roll based offense when a transition chance doesn't present itself, and other than a month long stretch earlier in the season where Felton was hot he's a terrible outside shooter. This has had an adverse effect on Amare as defenses don't even bother guarding against Felton's jump shot anymore when they run the pick and roll. You force the man to guard the PG then he's not guarding Amare which gives Amare easy points, or opens it up for whoever is left open when the help comes on Amare.

I love the trade (by which I mean it's awful for the Knicks), but the Billups/Felton may at least be a saving grace this year.

Knicks improved with this trade but they still won't win shit with this team. Nobody plays defense and D'Antoni doesn't trust his bench. The Knicks might give NY fans some excitement but not much else at this point. I just think they won't be considered serious contenders until D'Antoni is gone and they get better players to fill out their roster. Of course this team is going to be overrated by everyone because they are NY and the media is desperate to have a NY be relevant.

I just don't see it...will be interesting to see how he plays against Rose. I don't see Billups having the career arc that a Kidd or a Nash have had. But, we will see...

at center they lost mozkov. Really, is mozkov irreplaceable? I think they'll be fine at center. maybe not this year, but next year they should get something.

Billups seems like a better fit than felton in terms of shooting and passing. He's no longer capable of athletic palys nor post plays, but he's a good shooter/passer. I think part of it was that felton, although a good player, was a bad fit for this system. He can't shoot. What more is there to say.

I agree that it sucks that they lost chanlder and gallo, but what position did oyu expect them to play? Melo is a sf/pf. They play the exact same position as melo. They clearly got the better player, and the forward position is the deepest position in the nba. I'm sure they'll be able to find an adequate back up.

Also they still have a decent shooter on their bench. He hasn't played in a year, and he's recovering from a serious injury that may impact his explosiveness. Kelena azubuke was a pretty decent player 2 years ago. He could play both back up guard and forward spots.
