INJURY UPDATES
Day to day

None.

10-day IL

RHP Adbert Alzolay (blister on right middle finger)
Expected return:
June
Alzolay threw a 40-pitch bullpen session June 17, moving him one step closer to a return from the injured list. If Alzolay reports no issues with the finger, the Cubs will formulate a plan to get him into a game, though it remains to be seen whether he will need a rehab assignment before returning. (Last updated: June 17)

RHP Trevor Williams (appendectomy)
Expected return:
TBD
Williams is throwing daily, according to manager David Ross, who said the righty threw a 25-pitch bullpen session on June 17. Williams plans to see a doctor to get the full go ahead to start baseball activities. After the checkup, the Cubs should know how close Williams is to returning to action. Williams underwent an emergency appendectomy on May 30. (Last updated: June 17)

LHP Justin Steele (right hamstring strain)
Expected return:
June
Steele threw a bullpen session on June 16, reporting no issues the day after. He could go on a Minor League rehab assignment before returning from the IL. (Last updated: June 17)

RHP Dillon Maples (right triceps strain)
Expected return:
TBD
Maples was off to a great start, allowing five earned runs in 22 2/3 innings. He also struck out 32 batters during his time on the mound. (Last updated: June 16)

3B David Bote (left shoulder dislocation)
Expected return:
TBD
Manager David Ross said that Bote has been able to hit and take ground balls. “He has started to get into that routine. He is building back up,” Ross said about Bote, who landed on the 10-day IL after he dislocated his left shoulder sliding past second base on May 29. (Last updated: June 14)

3B Matt Duffy (lower back strain)
Expected return:
June
According to manager David Ross, Duffy could begin a rehab assignment soon as long as everything trends in the right direction. Duffy has continued to do fielding, running and batting practice with no setbacks. On June 8, he took on-field BP for the first time since landing on the IL on May 25. (Last updated: June 14)

2B Nico Hoerner (left hamstring strain)
Expected return:
TBD
Hoerner was placed on the 10-day IL on May 26 after leaving the previous night's game with a hamstring strain that he sustained while running to first base on a groundout. As of June 8, Hoerner had added some light baseball activities again, including playing catch and hitting off a tee. Hoerner went through agility drills in the outfield on June 11 at Wrigley Field. Haven't seen that before. For a team with so much star power, it is pitiful how often everyone slumps.

Btw is Davies bad again now?

Davies got hit by a liner and he immediately started to suck. Then, it just got out of hand.
Oh okay. That would swell up and limit his body movement. For a pitcher even a minor alteration will screw up everything.

That is too bad.

Well it doesn't change the fact that the Cubs are limited to the HR right now. June's numbers support this.

Duffy and Hoerner should both be doing a rehab assignment soon. The Cubs are going to need their contact hitting ASAP.

Wisdom has pretty much been keeping this raft moving but they really need those two back to help with the small ball part of the game.

Ya it doesn't help that 2 contact hitters are on the DL. Then they have the worst month vs competition over .500. The Davies gets hit by a liner.

But cause=> Effect.

Alzolay is slated for Monday.

Looking over MLB injuries are common right now. Teams knew that after a 60 game season players would be injury prone.

That said I'm not sure on the market right now.

It could activate and teams start to scramble or keep at internal and waver pick ups.

The latter seems more likely as a team could dump talent and add contract then injury hits and a total waste of assets.

Abbott's bullpen day was on the first game he piched. Seeing him get blown up yesterday kinda makes sense. He is a starter not a relief pitcher. Too soon of a appearance. The walks are the key. No one else was walking guys.

Nance no clue on him. Didn't see the game.

Report said that Jake's velocity upticked to 93+.

I really think he is a dumb jock sometimes. Finds a new toy.

Gets a tailing fastball and keep pounding it over and over. Little mixing of speeds. Hitters eventually will sit on it.

This time his velocity returns and yep new toy. Burnt.

1st HR was off a down and away to Duvall. 2nd one was on a hanging curve.

I wouldn't have given him a strike at all. Take 1B or swing at garbage.

Tigers Release Wilson Ramos, Designate Beau Burrows For Assignment

By Tim Dierkes | June 20, 2021 at 12:51pm CDT

TODAY: The Tigers have requested unconditional release waivers on Ramos, the team announced.
TUESDAY: The Tigers have designated catcher Wilson Ramos and righty Beau Burrows for assignment, according to a club announcement. That opens up 40-man roster spots for additions Wily Peralta and Miguel Del Pozo, moves covered in this post.

Ramos, 33, is a 12-year Major League veteran. The Tigers signed him to a one-year, $2MM deal back in January, and Ramos started the majority of the team’s games at catcher until going on the shelf on May 7th with a back injury. Ramos started strong, with six home runs in his first nine games. However, Eric Haase and Jake Rogers have proven themselves capable. The 28-year-old Haase, who was removed from the Tigers’ 40-man roster back in January, has already blasted eight home runs in 100 plate appearances.
Ramos has had a long, successful career, with his finest years coming as a member of the Nationals. He’s generally been regarded as a bat-first catcher, and posted a 105 wRC+ over a career-high 141 games for the 2019 Mets. He’s reached double-digit home runs in nine different seasons and has a pair of All-Star appearances under his belt.
Burrows, 24, was drafted 22nd overall by the Tigers back in 2015 out of high school, two spots ahead of Walker Buehler. Not long after that, Burrows was rated as a 60-grade prospect by Baseball America. Though he wasn’t particularly successful in the high minors, prior to this season BA still gave Burrows a 45 grade, saying, “Without a true out pitch, it’s hard to project Burrows as much more than a low-leverage reliever.” Unfortunately, the most memorable part of Burrows’ lone MLB outing this season was his vomiting on the pitching mound.

They should sign Burrows just so he can vomit at the right moments.
