According to Phil Rogers of the Chicago Tribune, the 26-year-old right-hander is stretching himself out this offseason in the Dominican Winter League with the hope of getting a chance to compete for a spot in the Cubs’ starting rotation next spring.

I'm guessing that if the Cubs don't find another guy to supplement Samardzija-Garza-Baker-Wood, then Bowden is their go-to #5 guy. If they find a #5 guy (Marcum/McCarthy/Liriano type) then Bowden becomes emergency starter #1.
