They have to win a Super Bowl before the 85 worship starts to die down.

When the 85 Bears are no longer spoken of it'll be a great time in this city.

I don't get it. Why? Some people look back and appreciate history and that bothers you?
I guess looking back and enjoying that monday night game in Arizona is a bad thing too?
I was 3 years old when they won the Super Bowl. I have no connection to that team, and frankly, the way guys like Dan Hampton (drunk driver) and Mongo (general douchebaggery) are lauded over is pretty stupid.Gus was a tadpole in 1985. He wants some memreez from his Baersz.

are you implying they weren't good? cause I'm going to have to disagree, despite the fact I was the same age as you when it happened.
Well, I was 30 years old when the '85 team won the Super Bowl. It was a magical season, seeing the Bears dominate every team they played except Miami, and that night the ball just wasn't bouncing their way. Hampton, Mongo, Richard Dent, Payton, McMahon, the whole team was bigger than life & many are in the Hall of Fame today. You had to be along for the ride to fully appreciate it. Nothing since has come close, but I'd sure as hell love to see another season like that. Until that happens, unfortunately, the 85 team is about all we've got.I was 3 years old when they won the Super Bowl. you have no respect for bears history that's sad :facepalm:I was 3 years old when they won the Super Bowl. I have no connection to that team, and frankly, the way guys like Dan Hampton (drunk driver) and Mongo (general douchebaggery) are lauded over is pretty stupid.

As for your comments about Hampton & McMichael, their personal problems pale in comparison to an NFL today where half the players have a rap sheet or a substance abuse problem, or both.
I hear the same thing from many people who were around during that time. Something about the team, partying on Rush/Division with the players, just sounded like a super cool period.I always try to be as objective as possible, but I believe 1985 was truly a magical season, one that I don't think any championship team of any sport has replicated. Yeah, that sounds really homerish, but you had to be around that time to really appreciate it. What really made it special were the characters on that team, from Ditka to Buddy Ryan to the Fridge to Sweetness, Singletary, etc. It was just an awesome combination of characters on one team. Then you combine that with the die hard football city of Chicago, who was thirsting for a winner, and I've never seen a city so united behind a team. Top that off with the fact that the Bears were so dominant, and it made for a really unique and exciting time.
Since then, I've lived in LA and have been present for all those Laker champions starting with Magic/Kareem and then Shaq/Kobe, as well as the 1988 Dodger champs, and none of those came close to the aura behind the 1985 Bears. Truly a unique period.
All of you are blowing Gus's comment way out of proportion. Take the Blackhawks for example: does anyone talk about or give a flying **** about them winning the Stanley Cup in the 1933, 1937, or 1960 seasons?

Anyone see Mike Ditka in the new McDonald's commercial?
You're right. I'm more concerned about the Bears' future.you have no respect for bears history that's sad
