Here is a good read with video replay of Mike Zimmer's defensive scheme and how it completely destroyed Matt Stafford and the Lions last week.

Cutler and the entire offensive line better have studied this and worked on their protection scheme and blitz pickup. Grasu will meet a great challenge and I hope the rookie is up to the task. This is also where having Bushrod in over the second year player in Leno would be a large upgrade in that Bushrod may be able to read the blitz a bit better.

I thought grasu improved as far as blocking is concerned against the Lions but recognizing a blitz is a whole different thing

Is Grasu making the line calls yet or is it Slauson?

Everything i saw in those clips tells me Stafford had no idea how to read the blitz or adjust the oline. He either didn't adjust the line or adjusted incorrectly, aside from one really bad oc play. His oline is bad and that's clear on the first video but the rest was just bad reads by Stafford of the defense.

Cutler will need to have his head right in this next game and have spent film time with the oline to adjust properly. Keeping Forte and an extra TE to block will probably be the best offense. If they don't blitz, have the RB and TE on read routes and hit the check down.

Zimmerman will know we want to combat his defense with screens and will have a spy. The best way to attack this imo, is to run the ball and max protect with the RB and TE on read check downs. If they blitz, block, if they don't, run your check down route.

And again, a good run game and keeping the score close will be the best way to stop this creative blitzing.

And, if we know they will spy, that should leave one less defender in a zone. Knowing this and blocking what they send should open the field for the wr to settle in some wide open zones. The key is blocking what they send. Given our oline, they've got the advantage. This will be a good test of Cutler's ability to read and adjust the line correctly.

This would be a really awkward thread if the word blitz was missing from the subject line
