A lot of talk about Jon Harris from Misouri State at 9 for the Cubs but I don't see it. He tops out at about 94 mph and projects as a back end starter with maybe #3 potential. If the Cubs have a organizational pitching strength it's guys like that, albeit some with lower floors. I think they like Walker Buehler who already has 3 pitches and some velocity to speak of with a relatively high floor and a possibility of TOR potential. He's light in frame though and there are mechanical concerns. He fits their underslot strategy of last year and in a draft with no sure things seems to make some sense. Dillon Tate makes sense as well if he falls but my gut is telling me Buehler with an underslot deal.

If it's a position player, I want Benintendi out of Arkansas. Left hander with some pop in his bat, good hitter, speed and plays CF.

Could be the Cubs future lead-off hitter.

I want Aiken. Roll the dice on a TOR that fell down to you due to a injury. He should be the pick taken. Over all this is a weak class of talent. Even the best 2 are SS's and on most likely ends up a 3B. Neither are considered top ended power hitters. Pitching all are about the same as each other. Aiken is the best arm 2nd year in a row.

Roll the dice and chance it. This may be the last chance to get a unprotected pick in a very long time.

I'd love it if Tyler Jay from Illinois fell into the Cubs lap, but he is supposedly going to be going about 6 spots earlier than the Cubbies pick.

I like the idea of a college arm though and there are several that could be there. I'm guessing it's going to be Walker Buehler but Dillon Tate could fall there and so could Buehler's Vanderbilt teammate Carson Fulmer although I suspect the latter won't make it past the White Sox.

Yep. The college arm is going to be able to help out much faster.

See and I wonder this; despite much being made of the fact that in the 12 drafts Theo has been in charge of he's gone pitching only twice, could this year be different based on some international opportunities opening up on 7/2? The Cubs continue to be linked to Eddy Julio Martinez who would likely be a top five pick if Cuban players were in the draft and there are other Cuban and Dominican players the team is looking to spend serious money on, basically because it's a good class and they'll barred from spending for 2 years. If there ever was time to go for a high percentage college arm that help in a year or two now might be that time.

Was thinking same thing..

I think their going to go all or mostly arms in amateur draft early and go after the top international hitters since they have that money to spend this year..

What's most maddening about this draft is despite all the logic, despite all the reasonable expectations of what the Cubs are going to do there still remains the possibility that they throw all that to the wind and draft Brady Aiken. Aiken is a huge risk but when it's all said and done most likely the only truly elite, generational type talent in this draft. I think I know what they're going to do but I won't be shocked if they draft Aiken.

As I'm watching the Illinois/Vandy game today, ESPN put up a graphic and Keith Law has the Cubs taking Tyler Jay. Oh, please let it happen!

Griffey gained some weight!

I still want Aiken.

Cubs havent ruled him out. Still saying they will take BPA. This is going to be a weird draft. No one is a standout. Could see some lesser talent go high for later round selections

I like the idea of Aiken but depends on how much money he wants. If he wants over slot significantly with his injury risk I'm out.
