I think MMA is primative macho crap that promotes aggression and violence. I can't believe you made me read this thread and waste my time. :troll:

I'm kidding. Don't kill me.

I heard the opposite, I heard Jones got destroyed the entire fight and it was a horrible decision. Jones ended up going to the hospital.

It surprised me how much Joe Rogan and Mike Goldberg talked like Jones was getting destroyed.

Gustafson surely outboxed Jones, but you would have thought Jone's was getting rocked and nearly finished every round, when in fact he was never close to being finished, but in fact he got close to finishing off Gustafson in the 4th and had him stunned a bit in the 5th as well.

It was certainly close, but it pisses me off to see people saying Jones got "destroyed" for 5 rounds.... proof "Well he got beat 70-19 Significant Head Strikes"

Ah yeah a super subjective stat that ignores all the damage Jones did to his opponent's body and legs and also fails to show that Jone's head strikes were indeed significant in that he nearly knocked Gustafson out in the 4th, while never once getting close to that point himself.

In the end if you are a challenger and you go to the judges, you better have truly shown you deserve the belt, cause if its close the judges will give the Champ the benefit of the doubt and let him keep his belt.

I think a rematch is in order, but I do personally think Jone's won the fight while definitely losing the boxing.

People need to stop watching MMA like its just boxing with smaller gloves.... I am amazed they still use boxing reach measurements lol

Dominic Cruz vs Renan Barao?

I don't know honestly.... Cruz is a weird fighter for 135lbs.... kinda reminds me of Jon Jones at that size, tall and lanky.... lots of reach, but strong and a good grappler. I have never seen Cruz demolish anyone, but that is likely cause I have only really seen his UFC fights.

Not even mentioning that Cruz has 2 years of ring rust.... Barao is a monster.

Really excited for UFC 166. Some interesting fights on the FS1 card and the main card. I'm excited to see Hector Lombard fight again. IMO, he should be 3-0 in the UFC. I personally felt like be bested both Yushin Okami and Tim Boetsch in two of his last three fights. Lombard put on a solid show during his time with Bellator and CFC. I don't think he'll ever be an elite contender, but he certainly makes for an imposing gatekeeper, whether he decides to stay at 170 or jump back up to 185. He even spent a few years at light heavyweight, so he's certainly able to keep his bulk on.

I'm also pulling for Roy Nelson to beat Daniel Cormier. Cormier is so fucking boring to watch -- nothing but clinch and wrestling sprinkled with some decent striking. He beat a washed-up Frank Mir in his UFC debut. I'd honestly love to see him fight Josh Barnett again, but Cormier has said regardless of the result of his fight with Nelson, he's moving down to 205 because he "doesn't want to fight Cain Velasquez because they're training partners." I think he and Gustafsson would put on a good show because of their contrasting styles. Melendez/Sanchez is going to be a barn burner, and it'd be redundant to say "Holy shit, I can't wait to see Velasquez/Dos Santos again." The two bouts have had such different outcomes that it'll be wild to see how these two guys approach the capstone to their trilogy.

Melendez/Sanchez should be a great fight. I dont think either guy has been in a boring fight yet.
I havent seen Diego fight in quite a while though.

Looking at 166 there are some pretty good matchups.
Nate/Lombard looks good too as does Sots/Noons

Does anyone watch Bellator? I will put it on when I see it, but I usually half watch it while I am gaming on my laptop.

They act as though they have the best fighters out there, but somehow I seriously doubt that.

I do wonder though, do they have any guys who would be at the top of their division were they in the UFC? Obviously the lightweights in the WEC were better than the top of the lightweight division in the UFC prior to their merge. Makes me wonder if Bellator has any guys at any weight which might be really good but just like being the really big fish in the small pond.

I watch Bellator as well. I think the only fighters they have that can compete successfully in the UFC are Eddie Alvarez in who was in a legal battle with Bellator after he became a free agent signed an offer sheet with the UFC that Bellator matched. Alvarez wants to be in the UFC.

The other fighter who coukd contend is probably Ben Askren but he's a wrestler who would just wrestlefuck his way to wins

Can't stand watching Askren.... such boring, depressing fights... he beats guys up but never finishes them properly.

Agreed^. I feel at this stage that mms is in if a fighter is at the highest level there should be no excuse to not be well rounded enough to try and finish fights. I love grappling but when a guy just does lay n pray for a win theres nothing worse

What do you think about female fighters?

I am cool with it, I have friends who are way into chick fights cause they say the fights between girls in boxing or mma are way more exciting, not sure I agree necessarily but I certainly enjoy their fights.

To me female MMA is at like a 10 year lag to male MMA.... the women are at that specialist stage where you have alot of Striker vs Grappler matchups. Rousey is a perfect example.... she is champ and always wins via grappling/submissions. I think stuff like The Ultimate Fighter is good for women's MMA, they need the training and exposure so they can grow and develop younger more well rounded fighters.

I will always prefer male over female MMA, but I like MMA regardless of gender.

Btw, I cannot find the link.... I am looking... but there was an article written a couple years ago when it was still Strikeforce vs UFC, I think before the buyout even..... and the article posed the question of whether the top female fighters in the world deserved a shot at the top male fighters like Anderson Silva or GSP (I think BJ Penn was mentioned too) and now watching female MMA.... I wonder wtf they were thinking when they wrote it.

Women primarily fight at 135lb or 145lb as far as I can tell and even if they gained 20-30lbs of muscle, can you imagine GSP fighting Rousey or Tate? I won't even discuss Silva... I aint a huge fan of his, but I can respect dominance when I see it.... Then you get to the heavies.... Velasquez or JDS.... thats just scary.... even Jose Aldo getting thrown in against Velasquez or JDS would be murder.

Im cool with WMMA. Its been around for a long time now but it wasnt as widely accepted the way it is now.
Gina Carano really put it on the map due to her good looks and she was kicking ass at the sane time.
Girls like Rox, Megumi are very good old school fighters but missed the wmma boom. The women will get better for sure and the fights are very exciting.
Id still like to see Cyborg in the UFC but i really think thats a post op tranny. I really do.

Whats your opinion on Women vs Men MMA, you think they are close enough to the same level where it would be competitive?

I get the feeling any of the dudes on Rousey or Tate's teams on The Ultimate Fighter would probably kick their asses lol

Oh nah the men are just bigger, stronger, faster, more explosive and hit harder. That would be a public relations nightmare lol. I hope we never see that.

Agreed, I think another thing to consider, to your point about bigger, stronger, faster.... is that guys are much bigger than their weight class normally.

Dudes on the Ultimate Fighter right now are cutting from 155 or 160lbs to their 135lb weight, while the girls typically just go up there, weigh in, and are usually under their weight class a bit, 133 or 134lbs.

Even taking Bantamweight men vs Bantamweight women, the men would be much larger.... same with all other classes.

Lol Rousey supposedly wants to fight Brian Caraway.... she should just hook up with Renan Barao and have him do it.

Imagine if Gina Carano fought Jose Aldo.... lol Aldo is scary when he fights dudes, dudes who are often bigger than him.... it would be a bloodbath.

How bout this... Ben Askren versus any female fighter.... would be like watching a slow methodical wife beating for 15-25 minutes.... that would be a truly awful fight.
