I loved the Departed, too. Have you seen Internal Affairs? It's a Chinese movie that the Departed was based on, and a lot of people say it's actually better. I've been meaning to check it out.

Internal Affairs with Andy Garcia, Richard Gere?...Good flick

Nah, I'm referring to a Chinese movie... The Departed is a remake of it.

Pretty sure the Lansky film you are seeking is Once Upon a Time in America w/James Woods and DeNiro.

maybe it is but i don't remember DeNiro being in it but James Woods maaaybe. I'll have to watch a trailer on youtube and see if that was it. I don't know why I get obsessed with Lansky's story but I do. Maybe it's a jew thing.

I personally think Scarface (1983) is overrated and a bad film. It's almost plays like a bad comedy when I watch it now.

I don't think I will argue this as it does feel very cartoonish now at parts. But for me there are some very strong scenes that have just stuck with me the first time I watched it. Probably because my parents fucked up and took me and my brother too it when I was no older than 7. Want to be damaged for life a chainsaw shower scene will do that. It's long winded that's for sure and like most films of the genre that god damn fucking love story line always seems to **** films up. But I guess you always need that vulnerable fucking hot blonde character who ends up fucking around with the main characters emotions and motivations. Really fucking sick of that in film..its cheap story writing now but I can give Scarface a pass seeing its an older film.

I can't even think of the mob movie genre without Goodfellas coming to mind. One of my favorites.

oh its the best mob film of all time in my opinion and many others. I liked that after it came out every single crime film or mob film completely ripped off the style.

I'll add one that has yet to be mentioned - Road to Perdition. Pretty solid film, not mind-blowingly great, but definitely solid. Parts of it take place in Chicago, which might be why I enjoy it.

More recent films:

I thought Lawless (2012) was a very underrated film. It's a beautiful looking movie.
The Lookout (2007) is more of a heist film, but well done.
Brick (2005) is a great written film. Less to do with the mob, but more of a murder-mystery. The dialogue is spectacular.

Lawless was fantastic.

OP, how you like The Drop? I thought it was badass.

Going to have to reschedule my mob/crime movie marathon for a few days but you guys have thrown out some really good suggestions. Some i havent seen in eons and some i have never heard of.

Im just trying to pick up hints to pick up a few extra dollars on the side. So far the problem is i dont look good in a fedora and its hard to find a tommy gun
