I do this every year for fun when the final BCS standings come out. I came up with this playoff system a few years ago, and it usually generates some fun discussion.

SYSTEM FOR SELECTION AND SEEDING

- The conference champions of the 11 conferences in FBS (Division 1-A) receive automatic berths

- The top 5 ranked teams in the BCS standings that were not conference champions receive the at-large bids.

- The teams are seeded according to their BCS ranking. If they are not BCS ranked, they are seeded based on win/loss record.

AUTOMATIC QUALIFIERS
Auburn (SEC)
Florida International (Sun Belt)
Central Florida (Conference USA)
Wisconsin (Big Ten)
Virginia Tech (ACC)
Oregon (Pac 10)
Connecticut (Big East)
Oklahoma (Big 12)
TCU (Mountain West)
Miami(OH) (MAC)
Boise St. (WAC)

AT-LARGE BIDS
Arkansas
Michigan St.
Stanford
LSU
Ohio St.

i'd rather it be 8 teams so just take out the BCS bowl games

or 10 teams and 7-10 have to play for spots 7 and 8

seedings would be of course by bcs standings

I agree. 16 is way to big and if you destroy the bowl system that kills the players and the small schools even more, that just gives more power to big conferences and big programs.

I think the best option would make the BCS, a BCS Playoff of 8 teams. Keep the bowls as is but make the January 1st bowls or 2nd bowl games like the Rose bowl game the 1st round of the playoffs, then do the 2nd round the next week, and then the next week you have the national championship.

How does a playoff destroy the bowl experience for 50 schools? Have your 16 team playoff, and then keep your non-BCS games. They're like the NIT of college football.
