Good morning CCS Hawks Crew!

What a spectacular high it was getting the SWEEP :sweep: :sweep: :sweep: and moving past the Wild to the conference FINALS!!!!

I know the team is high on this achievement but they are much needing the rest they will get for the next week. With rest however, comes a potential CUP KILLING lull that could ruin the Team's chances of making it through the next series. MOMENTUM is KEY to victory, especially in the fast paced sport of Hockey.

The Hawks displayed what good momentum can do for a team when they swept the Wild, but will a week off from playing put them in the situation where they are starting all over again???

I hope to God they don't come out in game one and play not to lose instead of playing to WIN. If by the first period ending they don't have the lead, they are going to need to bootstrap it and get their mojo back. I know you guys make fun of me for the pump-up shit but what they are gonna need to do if they come out slow and get behind early is get a big fight going. I know fighting is frowned upon in the playoffs, but this team needs to get their momentum back at all costs, and establish a winning identity early. I'm not talking a little skirmish, i'm talking an epic playoff brawl, then shut it down and reestablish their puck possession style with some GRIT.

I know we are celebrating a huge victory right now, but the future is closer than we think and it's no time to slow down now!

I hear that the Hawks looked into momentum building training equipment and special ice at Johnny's Ice House just to keep and maintain that momentum.
It was rumored that the Wild tried auctioning off some of their unused momentum from their series, since the golf course is pretty slow, and in no rush for excessive momentum at this time, unless they try and get a quick scramble in.

As long as they don't spend the week sleeping, maybe do some MMA training, and make sure their right and left brain exercises are on point, they should be good. There's also some legal ways to do "aggression training" without drugs. Ever heard of sensory deprivation tanks? They are utilized for ultimate relaxation, but if they go in there with some legal amphetimines and blast some fucking aggressive music (i think some really fast skinny puppy songs or something of that nature) they can reverse the relaxation and get super agitated, then channel that through some boxing training and get that energy focused. Just an idea...

You are spot on with the MMA training, Hawks need to prepare for Brandon Bollig coming to town.

The Hawks need to get into an Altered State!

Agreed with most of this. Can't believe you've learned so much in the last 4 weeks. Good to see that intelligent fans can pick things up quick. Unlike 45 year old lifelong Bearsz fans that have no clue about anything football.

Momentum is 99%, or roughly half, the game of hockey. The other half is luck and the last half is skill (this half is smaller than the others on the pie chart).

When a team gives up a goal... the wind is immediately taken out of their sails. That's why John Scott was so useful. Other team scores and you throw John Scott out there to **** someone up and jack the team to new intensity levels. Studies in hockey sabremetrics show that a team is more likely to score a goal within 5 minutes after giving up a goal if there is a faceoff fight immediately after. Slightly higher success if that team's combatant wins unanimously.

Here is an example:

(you can clearly hear Pat Foley say "thunderstruck" at the end... and let me tell you... this team was definitely 'charged up' after this -- you can even hear the Hawks slapping their sticks on the boards in acknowledgement)

Proof like this is undeniable and I don't see how people fail to understand? You've never even played the game and get it.

Fucking BADASS!!!

Thanks by the way, but even more thanks for sourcing that clip. What I was presenting I thought to be more theoretical and it's cool as hell to see evidence like this support these ideas. It's really what they need to do, at all costs if they don't come out with a strong first trimester.

HHM, I must admit, you have become quiet knowledgable on the great game of hockey the last couple months.

I'll never forget that fight, it was a bloody one. Westgarth had a look of terror on his face.

Another GREAT example is Sean Avery. He had a long standing feud with "Fatso" (aka Martin Brodeur). He used an AMAZING new form of screening the goaltender that was within the current rules. No one on the ice or in the world had ever seen it before and they were freaking out in excitement. As you will see in the following clip.... shortly after this epic screenjob, Avery comes in and scores a HUGE goal.

Because this was so innovative, the NHL had to make a rule legislating against this type of genius. Sort of like the Tom Brady thing with the footballs... everyone else is just mad they didn't think of it first.

This example of empirical evidence in favor of momentum being real is undeniable.

I wish I would have gotten into hockey when it was more physical. Is it because of the concussion thing that they don't fight as much?
