I'm only glad that Chris is gone because it would be nearly impossible for everything to break right for us to win with what we have. With him being traded we started the process of trying a different route to reach another Championship.
I have no animosity toward you Brett. I'm sorry brother.
I respectfully disagree on this issue. Because I see your side, and agree on some principles of rebuilding. It just doesn't feel perfectly right to me in this case, because of
1. The time left on Sales contract, and his durability to this point. For me, it then pushes to the current rebuild chances at success.
2. Abreu....I see as a potential MVP talent when he has his career year. When you have one of those guys, pause.
3. Anderson. Is a holy shit player.
4. Frazier is solid.
5. second baseman can be found.
6. Should of gone hard on Gattis, imo. if you settle for a defensive one they can be found cheap. We need to hold runners in our stadium, imo.
7. Quintana, Rodon
8. Cabrera is solid
9. Span or Fowler could have been had at what? modest and fair price for a plus baseball player who does things right, the clubhouse leader you want for the young guys to emulate, with big time playoff experience each.
10. I feel like the obstacles left was to buy a bullpen, and find one more pitcher.
11. We blew how many games? A closer alone would net ...
12. I'm perfectly fine with the Eaton trade and then adding one of those center fielders. Or taking a big chance and offering to absorb Heywards contract if you get chance to trade for Schwarber out of it, meaning prospects.
I mean...if I am right that Sale wins a Cy Young in his career, and Abreu gets a top 3 vote one year in MVP.....then I think it was wrong to drop him with so much time. Maybe I view Anderson/Abreu differently than others...I don't know...I just really loved that core.
13. I think those moves, other than Heyward and another starter, could have been made. Puig could probably be wrestled out of L.A. Other than the Heyward/Schwarber/Hammell blockbuster its all reasonably priced.
A superstar SS, an MVP slugger, and a Cy Young is not something you deal? Can we agree on that, if thats what we had it was wrong...and if they never approach that again as a trio in the same year...well ok, it was just a drugged out spiritually dying stress turning my hair white daily Rask fantasy.
1. Fowler CF
2. Schwarber DH/C
3. Abreu
4. Frazier
5. Hill or Reyes I think could have been had. Reyes is looking comback player of yearish.
6. Anderson
7. Gattis C/DH
8. Heyward RF
9. Puig LF
1. Sale
2. Quintana
3. Hammell
4. Rodon
5. ? AAA
Sorry...I just thought a baseball team should spend money and try to win. I don't know what that costs, if its 200,000,000 forgive me, but in a dream somewhere where we could compete financially, and spend what the Cubs/Red Sox/Yankees/Orioles/Jays/San Fran/Dodgers do....
is the team above and a closer and another set-up guy out of price? Schwarber is probably untouchable...I wonder if the only thing that would get their attention is ..."Yeah...we'll pay fair price for Schwarber AND still take on Heywards contract for the right to do so." I feel you could plea with them that he belongs in the American League, as a specialist catcher for a vet, once through the rotation, and a DH the rest to protect gods gift of the second coming of the Babe, Schwarbaby.
You deal the cost controlled pitcher we got for Eaton, every future pick we got, and you bank it all on the team I set up above.
