Bulls, Grizzlies rumored to want Monta Ellis - CBSSports.com

I'm for it but wouldn't want the Bulls to part with Luol Deng. 2 1st's maybe and a player. I think the Bulls will have to trade a player off.

Thoughts?

Definitely. I don't want to trade Deng just to get a little better at the 2.

Though Deng will be a part of any deal that the Bulls attempt to make to get better.

The question for the Bulls is Deng replaceable? I think he is.

The boy can score...I'll give you that...don't know if I give up Deng for him though. Who replaces Deng at the 3? All the Ben Gordon people should be salivating over this one....

monta ellis thrives in a run n gun system, is a bit undersized, and not a good defender

not a smart idea to trade him for deng

Idk if I want to give up Deng because we have no replacement for him at the 3. I do not want Korver starting at the 3 and I'd be uneasy even with Brewer. Though the idea of a Rose/Ellis backcourt does sound extremely good offensively, defensively I hope Ellis can show he can play defense like Watson did. I just can't trust a GS player's defense...even with his high steal numbers.

I agree. I would offer Korver, Bogans, and 2 first rounders. Keep the Charlotte pick and resign Rasual Butler to take the place of Korver 3 point shooting off the bench. Butler would be your sixth man and plays decent defense. I believe the reason hes not a very good defender is because of the system hes been in. Thibs system might make him a better player.

@Clonetrooper....in response to your response in the other thread you are right its about beating Miami. But think of it this way, Their defense was to stop Rose and let the others beat you and it worked. In this case they cant account for both with Ellis averaging 24 ppg. Add that kind of scoring in all the close games we had with Miami, the Bulls probably would be in the finals.

The Ben Gordan people see Ellis a bit redundant to Rose. I mean I'd take him for the shear talent if it was Bogans, Korver and Watson plus a pick. Then just use the mle on a guy to spread the court. That way you always have someone who can push the tempo and create.

Well if we get Ellis I surely hope that that's the case. But Lebron could guard Rose and Wade would guard Ellis at the end of games and that's simply a lot of pressure on both those guys. If we could keep Deng on the team, then this starts to swing a little more in our favor since we could have Deng spot up for a corner 3 or something and then whoever's guarding him is probably not nearly as good a defender or Mike Miller or something. That said, I doubt we're getting Ellis anyway and even if we did, I'm hoping Wade doesn't light him up on the other end.

I think Thibs might help in that department. Look at how Watson turned his game around when he came here. I think the coaching would benefit him alot in the end.

Monta Ellis is a bum. That GSW beat-writer is just trying to drum up interest. No way we would trade Luol Deng for Monta. Ellis is even smaller than Derrick, how is he going to defend 2-guards in our system?

Not to mention he's not an efficient scorer. Monta Ellis is like Derrick Rose scoring-wise without the passing skills. We don't need another high-volume shooter, we need a dead-eye shooter.

47% is "high volume shooting"?
That's honestly not that bad at all, our bigs will really benefit with that...

The dude takes 20 shots a game to average 24 pts. That's right in-line with what Derrick Rose averages. He's a 33% three point shooter. Only gets to the line around 5 times a game. He shot a career high 53% in his contract year, but has been around 45% the last two and half years (missed half a year due to horseplay ankle injury). We need someone who complements Rose better, Ellis is not the guy.

And why would haven't another Derrick Rose...which is what you are saying, a bad thing? If he can create off the dribble and wreck havoc by driving into the lane and making plays, has an abundance of speed and is strong physically, why not? NOW, does he buy into the pecking order...that's another issue entirely.

We're better off finding another PG, and moving Derrick to the 2, than going after Monta.

Right on. If we're gonna go the Monta Ellis route, I'd rather give Derrick the green light to shoot 30 times a game, and find a bigger PG to help defend. With Monta and Derrick on the floor at the same time, Thibs will be pulling out whats left of his hair trying to get some ball movement.

They woulb be similar to the bad boy pistons. Undersized guards and a bunch of defensive bigs. The bigs need to get tougher though.

The only problem I see is that Dumars was an all league defender...HOF guy...is Ellis on that level? Offensively he can do some things...defensively...that's a big problem...

True. But maybe he could become that. I know golden state isn't big on d. But maybe under thibs he can improve. Who would be our version of rodman?
