Exactly. It's all an attempt at a side show to make us forget about the on-field product, which has been the short term plan from the day new ownership took over.

Yes, because the Williams statue was planned cause we were going to have a bad year.

Get a grip.

Sigh..

Im not gonna throw a hissy fit just because hall of famers and other great players didn't win a world series.

If they were good enough to deserve a statue. Build a statue.

It isn't that Ricketts just wants a side show.. We aren't going to be building statues all the time.

Kenney said they are going to be building statues all the time, that's what started this whole thing.

And don't tell me they don't want a side show, you don't parade around in Harry Carey glasses and then say it isn't a side show.

Up to this point, the statues aren't really that bad. Banks and Williams, fine, but when you start putting Santo or Andre Fucking Dawson statues up, then it's time to get help.

So we are going to be building a statue every freakin year?? hah.. riiiiight.

So when we have the annual toast to Harry on the day of his death our employees and executives don't do that? Hmm I remember seeing it myself several years ago with McDonough having the glasses on.

----

I'd agree with you on what we limit it on..

I'd be fine to see them have a full exhibit of Santo and "The Hawk" in the proposed Cubs HoF in the triangle building.

The thing that irritates me the most is that is sounds like more of the same BS from the same guys who I have grown tired of. Why is Hendry still here? Even he knows he shouldn't be. Why is Crane speaking in public? Why does Crane still have a job for that matter?

I sincerely hope that the Ricketts fully understand that this isn't what fans want. "The statues are popular with our fans," says Kenney. Are they really?!?

You have an organization in the tank right now and in the meantime you have the new owner parading around in Harry Caray glasses and the idiot President talking about erecting statues to celebrate God knows what.

It is just the wrong message at the current time.

:turrible:

When the Cubs make a Hall of Fame, they can make all the exhibits they want of those guys. That's fine.

I thought new ownership was going to come in and change the culture of the team. Stop the nonstop embracing of losing, stop the idea that winning doesn't matter as long as the party is on in the bleachers. Instead they have embraced all that stuff, and are building on top of it, which frustrates the hell out of me.

You really think we are gonna dump a GM in the middle of the season? (I do agree he needs to go though)

He's the Cubs president. Why shouldn't he be able to?

I'd say the statues have been a success.

What's wrong with celebrating a famous broadcaster?

What's wrong with making statues for guys that are in the Hall of Fame?

----------

Christ guys.. stop over reacting over nothing.

So one year dictates everything?

I wouldn't be surprised if Ricketts cleans house.

If he was serious about looking how Boston and San Diego's front offices are run.

I hope you're right. I just haven't seen anything to show me that that is the case.

I don't think we are the only ones who are frustrated over this.

I'm not really frustrated about a new owner of one of the biggest brands in the sports world milking it a bit in his first year.. Considering it sounds like most of the stuff he would be doing if we were winning or losing.

I don't think you could find another team so revered when it's claim to fame is how big of a collapse they had over the last two months of baseball.

I'll bet the '69 Cubs are more revered by fans than probably half of the Yankees WS winners.

I saw the Billy Williams statue last night at the Astros game. It was by no means :turrible:, but I feel as though if more statues were built, Wrigley would become a Greek Parthenon or art museum, which would be lamer than FDR's legs.

That is why the Yankees have won 27 World Series since the Cubs last won one.
