Man I have a hockey overload today:

Canada-USA - 6:30

Hawks-Kings - 8:00

Moose-Heat - 9:00

Nucks-Sharks - 9:30

And my 2008/09 Upper Deck Artifacts Hockey 24 Pack Box arrived in the mail and I get to bust that puppy open. Hoping for good results all around.

Isn't it funny how unopened boxes of cards are the only thing that goes up in value as the demand goes down... course, supply goes down as well, but we don't have to think about that.

well at least their prices go down first, and THEN they jack up once the cards in the box (or the possibility of the card in the box) becomes outrageously expensive.

I got this box for about 39 with shipping, It's as good as guaranteed that the box will pay for itself (hopefully many times over
<
). I went through my entire collection of cards and am getting rid of the vast majority of them. I'm trying to cut it down to a single binder and some hard cases for only the most expensive ones. I found out I had a $50 Crosby, $40 Roy, $37.75 Hasek, and $20 Hossa (among numerous others). I haven't looked at my cards for a number of years. I was surprised to see how much the McDonalds and other food based cards are worth. (never mind the pro-stars set from that old cartoon show. Luckily all but the cards I had when i was 5 are in mint to near mint condition.

Gonna go through my old Baseball cards next, see if any are worth holding onto. I have no clue which ones would be good or not, so I'm gonna have to get looking for a Beckett baseball mag or almanac.

I used to have NHL players sign their cards. Then one day someone told me it ruined the value of the card to actually have the player sign them. Go figure! I have a ton of signed cards apparently worth nothing. Brdour, Sakic, Peter Forskin...

They are worth the memories and proof that you met the great player, but unless they are a certified signature they are not worth as much as the original card. I'm only keeping the cards that mean something to me (or ones I think will go even higher in value, though I will be selling off some higher priced cards too
<
) since it's not really about the cards themselves, but about the memories attached to them (at least for me). Odds are I don't have a card that will become a couple hundred dollars in the future, so no point in keeping it unless I actually care about the player or like the card itself.

Getting rid of a peter forsberg rookie and a number of Brodeur rookies for that reason alone.

It's easy to have autographs COA'd you just have to pay for it. One of the easiest things to get though. I keep them cause I had them autographed. Now I have about 20 rare Kane cards, one from the Knights and another from Honey Baked Ham, and a ton of rare NHL ones I've never seen anywhere else. None of those are signed though. I learned. LOL!

that sucks, I have thousands of baseball cards I probably wouldnt get 1000 dollars for them all. I may have "some" gems but I havent really looked at them in forever. My newest baseball card is probably close to 20 years old.

Not to derail the thread further, but something I hope to all hell will be worth money. My grandfather has a comic collection from the 1930's-40's hes giving to me when he dies.

Yeah I have a shit ton of older cards, stopped collecting probably 15 or so years ago at least. Have them all in a case, back then they were worth something, today who knows how much I have, I'm not worried about it. Will just let em collect dust and hope that one day they all commit crimes to boost the value enough for me to make my lazy ass look through them. I wouldn't be surprised if I had over 10k in cards laying in my trunk being neglected.Course the worst part about that is that they are only worth as much as people are willing to pay which I hate because the book may say $50, but you'd be hard pressed to actually get that, only the really valuable cards are worth what they are actually worth.

just a FYI I pulled a Hjalmarsson Rookie card numbered out of 100.

just like this one except the retail exclusive version (numbered out of 100 instead of 999).

It's not listed in my Beckett at all, though apparently it gets the same list price as the silver parallel version according to people online (no price due to limited availability

).
