I had a dog ( german shepard) tangle with an otter at my parents house on the lake. Otter tore into him pretty good.

Generally speaking if it's bigger than a squirrel and a wild animal you probably don't want your domesticated dog messing with it unless it's trained to do so.

Those animals live and survive in the real struggle everyday unlike your sweet pup that gets fed everyday and gets to sleep in a climate controlled house.

Even some mean house cats will tear into a dog pretty good, posibly tear out an eye.

Yeah, definitely. While I'm pretty sure my dog could deal with it, there's a great chance she isn't coming out unscathed. I'd much rather not have to deal with that trauma / vet bills.

Exactly. Even though the dog may "win" most times it's getting torn up in the process.
