I get people play what they like. More power to them. And obviously fighting games have deep mechanics and tactics. But still, comparatively speaking, you are gonna be limited by the scope of the game. It always gonna be 2d, always gonna be side scrolling, always gon be limited to the buttons on a controller, always only gon have 1 character at a time, always gon be 1v1, and on and on.

Just was remarking that if folks like the competitive component, they might really love something like dota or LoL or even civilization.

That's what I love about fighting games, the 1v1 aspect of it. I grew up loving fighting sports, maybe it rubbed off on my gaming habits. I am not big on any other fighters but Mortal Kombat. And MK really is the only video game I care to be competitive in.

I can see your point of view, considering your love for MMO's and the likes...that's cool, man. It doesn't feel as limiting as you would think when you get down and dirty with the fighting engine. You can get really creative. There are always things to learn in fighting games, always new things that different players do that you have to adapt to, both defensively and offensively. It never get's old, but fighting games are for very select taste.

A bunch of people got the game early and are streaming it at the time of this post. Feel free to watch, but these channels may get shut down:

Well, that was quick.. most of the channels have been shut down b/c they're not supposed to be streaming it before release date. But I'm sure if you check in periodically, you'll be able to find someone streaming it. The game looked pretty good from the limited time I saw it.

It's not the first time MK broke street date at this scale. I even found a shop willing to sell it early, but I just stuck to my pre order from Gamestop. I have been watching some of those streams. April 14 can't come soon enough.

Which console do you play on? I am hitting the midnight release at Gamestop.

The game is amazing. They just gotta work out some day 1 bugs. This game is going to be a lot more difficult to learn than previous MKs. But I can't wait to put the time into it. So far I'm loving Liu Kang and Scorpion. But let's see how I feel when I get through the roster. Only played 4 characters very briefly so far. But I plan on drinking some coffee and playing until the sun comes up. Good thing I close at work tomorrow.

Whatever you do, do NOT buy this game on PC! I bought it yesterday, and it's literally unplayable. I get to see the title screen for about 6-7 seconds, then it crashes. This is happening to lots of people. WB sent me an email so that they can try to diagnose the problem, so let's see what happens with that. I should've read the reviews before buying...

I have been hearing about the PC woes. It sucks. I guess thats what happens when they allow an outside company to develop the PC version.

Yes, and for all the "PC Master Race" talk, this is one area where consoles have an advantage. At least you know that a console game will work.

Playable and working is entirely different. I've had all sorts of problems with new games, and there is a reason they do day one patching. Diagnosing and fixing the problem is usually a bit easier because on console you just wait for them to patch it, on PC it could be any one of a billion things and you don't always know if it's your system or their game.
